Dear Bob,

I'm writing to inform you that after meeting you a few times and having the conversations we did, I am very confident in recommending you as a highly competent, informed, concerned, and reliable firearms instructor. Of the several people who I have referred to you, every one was more than pleased with the courses you instruct, and very comfortable with your easygoing personality. I have referred people of extremely diverse backgrounds and biographies to your school of instruction. Each and every one was well pleased and glad they entrusted you with their firearms training.  Keep up the good work in properly instructing the responsible citizens of our valley to safely handle and confidently deploy firearms.

I have removed their names to protect their privacy, but these are actual emails from recent Students following their training. I thank them one and all for their kind words, and feel privileged to now call them friends.

Hi Bob,

First I want to thank you, on behalf of myself and Maria for the quality day you gave us on Tuesday.  Neither of us were sure what to expect since we are really novices in the area of firearms.  Speaking for Maria, the greatest takeaway for her was that you were able to instill in her the confidence that she can handle a firearm.  There were several other high points during the day, but for her this was the most important.  This also gives me peace of mind beyond anything you can imagine.  She truly is my world, and I am not always there to protect her.

For me, you gave me the confidence that I can handle a semi automatic handgun.  I have always been so apprehensive, since I just did not know where to go to or who to look to.  I love that we live in the information age today, but the trade off is that there is so much bad information out there.  You really helped me in so many ways.  So much so, that yesterday I came home with an SR22 and a PPS-M2.  Our intent was just to get the SR 22 and once proficient in that, move up to the 9, but I was unable to exercise self control!

I don't want to discount the theory portion of the class by any means.  That training provided was eye-opening, invaluable, and potentially life saving.  Just that night on the way home, we stopped to pick up some take out, and I found myself checking my surroundings in a way I never did before.  Also, the theory that you provided with regard to ammunition, weapon selection, and tactics when you do not have a gun available was worth the cost of the course alone.

As an instructor, you communicated very clearly, lectured in a way in which you were speaking at our level, and make sure that we comprehended each module before you moved on.

We told Chris and Mary at Advanced Arms just how valuable the training was and that their website was what referred you to us.  I am going to e-mail you and see when we can schedule some range time in the near future once I have some potential dates available with both of our schedules.  We feel that this is so important for us to keep training here, but also to have range time with you as much as all our schedules permit.

You have also provided us with an activity that we can both do together and both enjoy.  With our schedules being so opposite the past few years, it has been tough to find something that we can do together.

I have only begun to peruse the wealth of information that you provided after the class.  I am looking forward to reinforcing what you taught us, and learning more.  We have already decided that when we are ready we want to take the next class during one of our upcoming vacations in the next year.  Thank you again for this great service.

Hello Bob

I just had to take the time to tell you what a great experience I had. I have been shooting for a very long time.  This is the third class I have taken with you [the Tactical Handgun II Class ] and I must say that every time I came to one of your classes I left with greater knowledge in the art of self defense than I had before.  In the hours that I was there you covered so many subjects that it will take me months of practice to  become familiar  with all of them.  I am still amazed with the, new to me, dynamic shooting stance that you taught me. At first glance it looked very awkward, but to my very big surprise it was unbelievably simple and easy. The mechanics of it just lets you flow right into it. It took much less time than going into one of the other positions like the weaver stance that I use a lot. I could not believe what a stable shooting platform this stance gives you. It is next to impossible not to see the sights and they are lined up automatically, and as you know where the sights point your rounds follow. I can't believe how much better I was shooting with it. Not only did I enjoy that class, but I enjoyed your company also.

One thing you did not do, as many other schools do, is push score. They tell you that you did fine," but your score could be better," so you should come back and work on that and give them more $$$$.  In reality they are just teaching bullseye shooting... not combat/self defense. You did not do that, your goal was to get me to put better hits on target where they count. You were not keeping score and said good hit's on target are really what is important. It will take me a few months to go through all that you have shown me and practice it.  I am looking forward to coming back to see you some time in the spring for a hour or two so you can go over what, I hope that I have learned, and correct me if I am doing something that is not right.

Thanks,

N

Greetings, Bob!

I had a ball at your training session. Thank you for being so respectable and friendly. My wife and I appreciated the lack of profanity and the humorous moments. I learned so much more than Uncle Sam ever taught me about using a firearm. In my opinion, you and others with this extensive knowledge should be teaching our armed forces about weapons. We are choosing our handguns and safety equipment carefully. I actually would prefer a handgun (probably a revolver) in .38 special for my CCW. For home defense, something with a higher capacity like a 9mm. I will definitely see you soon.

Dear Advanced Arms Personnel,

I recently came to your establishment to transfer a gun and asked about firearms training.  I was handed the business card of Robert DeMott of Dynamic Force Institute and am writing to say THIS GUY WAS GREAT!

Both my husband and I have advanced educational degrees, my husband was a teacher for 35 years and I have done many training in-services and attended dozens upon dozens.  When I phoned to make arrangements I must say I was a bit reluctant to attend a small class for the entire day, as I was aware that full attention would be expected (less would be fairly obvious);  but my worries were immediately assuaged as Bob was the perfect balance of down to earth welcoming host and engaging teacher. He was able to relay an incredible amount of information through talking (I can't say lecture, as it never appeared he was lecturing), short films and demonstrations.

The day was remarkable and my husband and I were enthralled with Bob and the information he presented.  We never imagined we would get such a wealth of information!  Bob easily moved from one subject to another including:  choosing the right handgun, how to carry- the types of holsters available, cleaning and care of guns,  ammunition types and applications, ear protection types and magazine loaders.  We got invaluable lessons in personal safety and protection- the 6 things everyone should carry every day to optimize their chances of survival in critical situations.

We learned many aspects of the law from the Castle Doctrine, the real role of the police, what to do in the event that you have to protect yourself against someone with your firearm- how you must legally protect yourself using key and proven verbiage.  Bob even reviewed and gave a guide as to what to say during a 911 call to assure your actions are not misinterpreted as anything except self defense and what the DA looks for to ascertain if you have acted in self defense.

We were shown and given the opportunity to handle and fire an incredible array of firearms and spent time with this expert instructing us in the correct use of the guns we brought with us. Bob even reviewed home security.

After we left we were giddy with the amount of knowledge we gained and afterwards Bob sent a super lengthy email containing links to all the products he talked about as well as links to dozens of sights to continue our learning.  We could not have imagined a better teacher than Bob and give him our highest respect and endorsement.  I would go as far as to say his course is A MUST FOR EVERYONE CONCERNED WITH PERSONAL SAFETY AND SELF DEFENSE in this increasingly dangerous and Godless world.

Sincerely,

JS

Hi Bob,

The class was a great help to me and it was everything, if not more than I expected. You're very knowledgeable in the effective use of firearms and I feel much more comfortable handling a firearm now. After going through the probation academy (Act 158) training, your course differs greatly from the basic state firearms training they provide. Your training definitely prepares you for actual real world work situations that the parole board couldn't even think of. You provided me with many techniques and tactics I can now use in my everyday work life and time off the clock. I am very thankful for the training you provided me with and it was a pleasure working with you. I will be in contact soon for further training and additional range time.

Thanks for everything!

Hi Bob,

I enjoyed the Defensive Light Rifle course tremendously. I’m very happy that I decided to take this course as I wasn’t sure which rifle would be best as a first purchase. At the end of the training the choice for my first rifle was clear. I walked away with a much greater understanding of every type of rifle; new and old. I only wish I would have brought an extra box of .22 LR ammo as shooting those rifles was so much fun that I didn’t want to stop.

I also want to thank you for providing me with the links to all the gear and equipment.

Looking forward to coming back in the near future to further my training,

J

Bob,

I just wanted to thank you for the great day Nick and I had yesterday. We both felt we were exposed to and learned an enormous amount of information that pertained directly to our questions and concerns in an environment that was friendly, helpful and non-intimidating.

We are both looking forward to round 2 with more time on the range!

Very best regards,

Bob,

To say that my son and I drove an hour (with other options within a 15 minute drive) to take a defensive handgun and home defense course would be an outright lie. What we actually experienced was over 7 hours of skillfully, well delivered information, and an unparalleled educational experience. We received  hands on training in the fullest sense of the word. We came away from the day as different individuals.

Being complete "noobies", with zero experience with firearms, we pulled up to the property with some apprehension. This dissipated as soon as we exited our vehicle. You received us into your home and made us feel like family. We both agreed that we felt like you were someone who we have known for years. This is crucial for such training. An instructor who cannot gain the respect and trust of his/her students will not last long. You are a true teacher and one who is proficient in his craft. We are already making plans for the rest of our initial training, and look forward to the next steps as well. We would go nowhere else.

Thanks again for an amazing day!

Hello Bob,

I’d like to thank you again for the wonderful experience I had taking the First Steps + Defensive Handgun course at DFI. All expectations I had prior to attending were surpassed by leaps and bounds.

The relaxed atmosphere at your lovely home put me at ease immediately and made for an environment that is very conducive to learning.

In welcoming a stranger into your home, you were as affable and gracious a host as anyone could ever ask for. Your passion for training your students is infectious and endearing, and you are a true professional and a gentleman.

I will tell anyone I meet who’s considering purchasing their first firearm or seeking guidance / training, to attend your course before they do so without reservation. Having the opportunity to fire myriad handguns in various sizes and calibers will only help them make a better choice for their first firearm.

Upon competition of the First Steps + Defensive Handgun course, I now consider the training to be invaluable, and I am looking forward to furthering my training with you in the near future.

Warm regards,

J

Hi Bob,

Just wanted to let you know that I was very happy with the First Steps and Defensive handgun course. There was so much more information than I had anticipated. After taking the course I now feel more confident and ready to practice, practice, practice. I would recommend the course to others.

Thanks again,

Hi Bob,

It was a pleasure meeting you last Saturday. I'd like to take the time to thank you for an outstanding class. I am so very impressed with DFI and you as an instructor.

You took the extra time with each person that was needed to get them through the course and made them feel good about their accomplishments.  I personally feel more confident in carrying concealed.

Can't wait to schedule my last hour of range time and thank you again for such an awesome course.

Bob,

just wanted to thank you for the very informative class that you presented on gun safety and self defense. I still can't believe all the information that we covered today. You were awesome. Because of today's class I am now comfortable with being an owner of a handgun, but more importantly on knowing how to use it properly and safely. Thanks once again. Ann and myself will be contacting you in the next few weeks to schedule our additional hour of range time. Have a nice weekend.

Hi Bob,

I just wanted to thank you again for your time, patience and imparting some of your wisdom and firearms expertise. You are an excellent teacher. With your assistance and guidance, I was able to confidently move from novice, new gun owner to obtain my State Firearms Certification.

I have, and will continue, to tell others about my experiences and your institute.

Take care,

Bob,

Thank you so much for the class this past weekend. Over a year ago I wanted to take your class to expand my knowledge and comfort level handling guns. I'm glad I finally took the time to take your class. Unfortunately, with the constant home break-ins in our area and the violence we see on the news, I knew I didn't want to waste any more time. I had a great time and the class flew by. Prior to taking your class I had only fired a gun a few times and I wanted to be more comfortable handling one. You didn't just teach me all the proper techniques of shooting, but I also appreciated the other safety and self defense tips you taught me without using a gun. The class was more than I expected. We went through tons of information that will be very beneficial to me in the future. You made me feel comfortable and confident once we started shooting. The confidence I now have makes me excited to purchase my first gun. I have already recommended you to several friends. I hope I get the opportunity and time to shoot more with you and to expand my knowledge with guns. Thanks again.

Hi Bob,

We were so happy with your course and fortunate that you were our instructor.  You were welcoming,

knowledgeable and extremely patient. My husband has had experience with guns but I needed all the help I could get. I was so nervous, but you put me at ease. We both learned so much such as, how to choose the best weapon for us, how to operate a weapon safely and how not to be a victim.  Your course also touched on legal aspects of gun ownership, self-defense and much more. As a former teacher I was impressed with your dedication and class preparation. We left feeling more confident and better prepared to be responsible firearms owners. We also appreciate that you are available for any questions we might have and for the fact that we may come back to your range after we purchase our firearms for further help. Our thanks also for the lists of web sites and DVD's you provided.  We thank you again and we promise to practice.  We would highly recommend your course to anyone who is interested in learning to become a responsible gun owner.  We will also thank Piestraks for recommending you.

Well Bob, Where can I start?  I actually messaged Pam Burke from Burke's Gun Shop on the way home to tell her how impressed I was with the course and I would certainly recommend it to anyone.

I personally felt like I wouldn't get much out of it from the beginning and went more for support of Sharon.  Boy, was I wrong!  Luckily, I can play stupid and I was able to absorb a ton of info yesterday.  Way more than either of us can retain or even understand from one course alone.  I think that it is something that truly must be ongoing.   I felt like you didn't sugar coat anything and I appreciated that. I think that is necessary to deliver the material in the way it needs to be delivered.

I have hunted and been shooting since I was a kid.  I have never, ever done anything like I did yesterday.  Now, I am constantly looking around when I go out, I have looked all over my house for weak points or entry points or how I would get in or hide outside if I was a robber.  I also looked into how I can get area lighting around the whole property.  Just things to set up the circles of defense.

Another thing we learned is the absolute FACT that if you defend yourself once, by default you MUST defend yourself twice. From the police and D.A.  It's sad, but its very true. That would be the last thing anybody that had to deal  with a life threatening situation should have to deal with after the fact.

Last night, we had Sharon's unloaded and verified clear Sig with the laser on it out after the kids went to bed.  We practiced point shooting at targets in the living room and turned on the laser to see how we did after we had the gun on target.  Most of the time we did pretty well.

Yesterday was the first time I ever did point shooting.  Bob, I have to say, that was VERY interesting and so different than what I've been doing for 30 years.  I never even heard of it until the course. I appreciate you letting us shoot all the guns, and I like the way you took them from the .22 up to the .45.  It is a good natural progression and is an excellent way to acclimate new shooters to the different calibers and feelings of recoil, so they can build their expectations as they go along.   That .45 was SWEET by the way.  I may pick one of those up just to add to my collection.  I also really like the one with the gas piston recoil system.

I think starting as close to the target as we did is good for a students confidence too.  Also, it is very important to know about the closing  distance of an attacker.  Also how you said that anyone out of that range may not be a threat yet.  Unless of course they have a gun.

It took me most of the day to peruse through the email and read and watch the stuff you sent.  I'm still not sure that I watched it all and definitely didn't learn it all.

We would like to come back and do the hour of shooting you offered when we get time.  I would also like to take the more advanced course you talked about.  I would even be interested in taking any other courses you recommend as well.  I like shooting in general and anytime I can do it with a goal, I try to do it.  Be it hunting, clay birds, and now this. The difference with this though, is that the repetition sharpens skills and you can learn your own weaknesses.  For example, my forgetting to switch off that safety each time.  I would look at that as something critical to overcome.

I think my natural choice of defense at home is my shotgun as opposed to a handgun for carrying.  I can see why I would need close quarters training with that, because that is probably where it would be used.

One thing I just thought about now, is the biggest key to any of this stuff out in public is simply avoidance.  Avoiding the situations where thugs can be in hiding.  Stay well lit.  Go shopping in the day time, avoid parking lots at nights, etc.

All in all, it was a very interesting and informative course.  You did very well and are a master of your craft.  I appreciate how you took your time with Sharon's shooting and answering questions along the way.

Hope to learn more soon.

Thanks,

B

Dear Bob,

I told Advanced Arms I thoroughly enjoyed your course and would strongly recommend it to anyone who is contemplating carrying or using a firearm for protective purposes. I could not recommend a better presenter than you! Your passion and knowledge are obvious and outstanding, and as such holds the students' attention throughout.

The "legal" aspects of employing a firearm safely and appropriately were invaluable.

The presentation of the various items/tools important to self defense also were invaluable.

The supplied web links including the recommended products were worth the price of the course on their own. (I ordered everything we discussed that you recommended)!

Ample time for questions and discussion.

Range time with various weapons was the best! You walked away with definite confidence in using a hand gun as well as the experience in handling a wide spectrum of handguns allowing you to get a good "feel" for what works and doesn't for you the shooter. (Where else will you experience this, I ask?)

My only suggestion is, it would be nice to experience more various "street scenarios" and observe how you as an expert would respond. The wallet and approaching group demonstrations were very helpful. I know each experience will be unique and what applies to one may not work for another but for me when I watch an expert apply their skills it sticks.

I wish I could have you by my side as I and my loved ones venture into this precarious society, but with the info you provided I feel much more comfortable in and more aware of my surroundings. I sense you are a genuine person concerned with upholding the US Constitution, the rights of the honest citizen, and the protection of our God given Inalienable Rights.

I will contact you soon to schedule my additional range time.

My sincere thanks to you,

S

Dear Bob,

I can't thank you enough for such a fantastic class.  Although I knew that I should be taking steps to ensure my own personal safety, I was apprehensive about owning a gun.

Learning about the guns, what type to buy, where to get it, how to carry it,and most importantly when it was appropriate to use it were overwhelming to me so I chose to do nothing until your class was recommended to me.

Although you train much more experienced individuals than I, the class was spot on for the beginner and addressed our specific situations.  I have to say I was incredibly nervous about firing the guns, however by the time we got to the range I was comfortable knowing that you would never put a gun in my hands that was too much for me to handle.

I am now comfortable firing a gun.  I look forward to purchasing mine and returning for more range time.  The class was incredibly interesting and the day was a blast! I would highly recommend this class!

Good afternoon Bob,

I hope this message finds you well.

I believe that the information and techniques provided in your class were more than I could have asked for. By the end of shooting, I was much more comfortable not only with a firearm but in my own skin. I'm now eager to continue my training with firearms and self defense to make certain that myself and my loved ones are protected by any means necessary.

I very much enjoyed meeting you. I look forward to the next hour of shooting and cleaning my personal firearm of choice.

Thanks again Bob. I'm eternally grateful for you and the knowledge you have passed along.

Warm regards,

Hi Bob,

I hope all is well with you. Loved the course. Very enlightening. I learned things that I never thought possible. Your teaching method is spot on. Right to the point, and very informative. I now wish that we had not purchased the weapons that we did, but instead had taken the course and used the knowledge we gained to make a better decision. Dee really liked that Ruger with the pop up indicator that there is a round in the chamber. She also liked the feel of the weapon. It looks that Advanced arms will be getting more business in the future.

Yours Truly,

Hi Bob,

As you know I was very leery and scared of even holding a gun. At 62 and being a female, I never expected I would find the need for self protection. Times change. By the end of your class I was not only actually able to shoot a gun proficiently, I had a whole new outlook on the words, ‘self protection’. I will review your information often and practice the skills you taught me, and I will become more confident with time. I would recommend your class to anyone, of any age, even those who  think they know it all!  The 8 hours spent with you flew by and was packed with nothing but important information for any gun owner or anyone considering becoming a gun owner. You really made a difference in my life. Thank you!

Bob,

I want to thank you. The afternoon flew by, you are a dynamic teacher. You kept our attention the whole time. I expected a lesson on shooting, what we got was so much more. I strongly encourage anyone who is looking to purchase or carry a hand gun to take your course. I feel much more comfortable with the idea of having a gun with me in public. I am confident that if the time ever came, I would take appropriate action, whether it would be avoiding a confrontation, or being forced to protect myself or my family. I do plan on continuing my training and look forward to part 2 of your course.

Thank you,

Hi Bob,

Diane and I had a great time yesterday! (I'm sure her sister Carolyn and Lisa did as well).  To be honest, I  dreaded a 6 to 8 hour course set up by Carolyn and Diane, but it actually flew by with all the fascinating and useful information you presented.  If it hadn't been cold, we probably would not have stopped shooting until you ran out of ammo!

We learned a great deal and are now much more comfortable with the idea of carrying at all times.  We've started going thru the many articles on your web site and look forward to coming back (several times) for additional shooting time and training with our guns.  I wish we had taken the course before buying them - I think I'll be buying  a .22 or 380 for carrying rather than the bulky S&W 40 Shield.  I'll keep that one for added home defense.

With regards to the class time - we now have a whole new approach on how to act in a bad situation in the street or, in Diane's case,  her store.  The legal information was also very enlightening and we plan on implementing your personal protection tips immediately.

While Carolyn & Lisa were referred to you separately, Diane and I will certainly let Norm Gavlick at Gun Hippo in Kingston know that we are glad he sent us.

We'll be in touch to set up our next shooting range session soon.

Thanks!

After taking the First Steps + Defensive Handgun course I was very well educated. I went into this class knowing nothing about firearms or how to even shoot one. Bob understood that right from the beginning and was able to explain everything I needed to know, at a pace and level that I could understand. I learned everything from how to hold a hand gun, to why I would even need a gun, and even shooting a gun. I know have the confidence and practical skills to defend myself if needed, and the ability to continue my education in guns. The course was well worth the time and money, and I will be taking more courses in the near future.

On a personal note, I can not thank you enough for allowing me into your home and onto your range to educate and teach me about handguns. The safety and general points you made to have helped me greatly. I did not know a thing about handguns, and you went above and beyond in teaching me everything I needed to know.

Thank you for your help, I had a great time and I look forward to seeing you again.

Hi Bob,

I enjoyed the day more than I could have imagined, not what I expected but a much needed reality check. I didn't think I would enjoy shooting as much as I did and I already downloaded and filled out my concealed carry application.

Brian is taking me to check out my own Taurus 738 to buy and we already have a Walther P22, so those will be the guns I'll be working with for starters. I liked a lot of them but those 2 were my favorites.

I will most surely get back to your referrals because I believe more people should take your course. I was able to open the files on the DVD’s.

I wouldn’t change anything about your course. I was very nervous about coming but the information was compelling enough to snap me out of it. You presented it in a manner that made us not even want to take breaks. I was thinking about my expectations when I signed up for your class and there is something I want you to know.

I came into it thinking it would be a fun experience outside of my comfort zone and it would get Brian off my back about learning to shoot. It was never my intention to ever pick one up again and if I did poorly, he wouldn't want me to.

Surprisingly you changed my mind about a number of issues. I feel inspired and again I want to say thank you. If you ever doubt that you're effective, don't.

I can assure you that I will continue to educate myself as I work through all of this (there is a lot to learn).

Thank you so much,

M

Bob,

I just wanted to let you know how important your training really is.

One beautiful, recent Sunday afternoon, I was out walking my dog, when everything went sideways. While walking down a path, two pit bulls got away from a young girl who was walking them, and they ran my way. The girl started screaming at the dogs, but all that did was alert the five people standing by the car from where the dogs came. When the dogs came at my small and shy dog, she ran behind me; this allowed me to grab the leash of one of the large dogs, but then the other one started to attack my dog. I grabbed the attacking dog by its collar and threw the dog to the side, picked up my dog and moved to get away. All the yelling the girl was doing to get the dogs under control quickly got the attention of a people by the car. The five men started running at me, saying they were going to kick my ass, kill me and f%#! me up. I tried to leave the area, but it soon became clear to me that leaving was not an option anymore. When the men got within about 25 feet of me, I found the need to do something.

Bob, this is where everything you taught me popped into my head – thank you.

I put down my dog, raised my hand, and yelled to everyone involved to STOP. Telling them to stop did not deter them (five against one), so at that time I removed cover from my firearm, placing my hand on it, got into a fighting stance and began warning everyone trying to attack me to stop. Upon seeing I was armed, four of the group returned to the car immediately, but continued yelling and threatening me. The individual who did not retreat started yelling and telling me he was going to kill me for touching his dog. This person did not advance, since the sight of the holstered gun nailed him in place, but with all that was going on, and outnumbered five to one, he made me fear for my life. I never removed my gun from its holster, but he knew I had it because he said, “Shoot me motherf%#!#$; I ain’t afraid of you.” After five seconds or so of him threatening me, I backed up and removed myself from the area. When it was safe, I called 911.

For your information: 911 took my information and asked if I wanted police. Really? The dispatcher then said the police would come and followed that with a goodbye. The police arrived 10 minutes later (no lights, no siren) and did not arrest anyone that day, including the man who said he would kill me. However, the very same individual was arrested two days later for a different incident that happened earlier (read below).

The Associated Press:

1 ARRESTED IN ATTACK ON WOMAN FOUND IN WOODS WITH THROAT CUT

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - State police say they have arrested one of three suspects being sought in the attempted murder last fall of a woman who was stripped, beaten and taken to woods where her throat was slit.

Police in Wyoming County say the victim was found in October naked and bloody with a 3-inch-long laceration "from the trachea to her ear" in Bear Creek Township.

Police said she was stripped at a Wilkes-Barre home and beaten "by a number of females," then placed in a barrel for about four hours before being taken into the woods where among other things, her throat was cut.

Police said 31-year-old Jerone Moore was arrested Tuesday in Wilkes-Barre; court documents don't list an attorney who could respond to the charges. Twenty-five-year-old Nygee Taylor, and 21-year-old Chloe Isaacs are being sought (in the kidnapping, torture, rape and attempted murder) of the victim

Hi Bob,

My wife and I had been discussing the purchase of a handgun for self-defense for a while, and finally decided it was time after reading news of several  break-ins in our area.  We went to two local gun shops, and shopped around.  We decided to take a gun safety course to  make sure that we were making the right decision, and felt it would be the responsible thing to do.  Both Gun shops recommended that we talk to you if we had any questions, or wanted to take a course in self-defense. My wife called to set up the class.  I figured the class would encompass Handgun safety, operation, ammunition, style, etc…but it was so much more!

We learned about:

- How to make our home more secure to protect our family.

- How to make our home a less attractive target for robbery or home invasion.

- How to handle a home invasion situation, robbery, attempted mugging, etc.

- What weapons best fit our needs – I Never thought about how personal a gun is – and how important it is to have the right gun to fit each person.

- How to use several types of handguns, and how important it is to practice with the gun you use for your protection.

- Conceal carry – How to get a permit, the laws involved, and your responsibility for your and others safety.

- Smart use of Flashlights, Knives, and why everyone should have a whistle.

I learned some things that will forever change my thinking.

  1. -What can happen in the 8 minutes or so it takes for police to get to you during a home invasion, robbery, or attack. (life or death)

  2. -YOU, and only you are responsible to protect yourself and the ones you love.  In order to do this you need tools, knowledge, and practice.

  3. -What role and responsibility the police have.

  4. -How important psychology is in the event of an attack, and how important having the right protection is.

We want to thank you for being so hospitable and helpful.  You did not treat us as strangers, and did not assume anything.  We are both looking forward to coming back and learning more.

Sincerely,

J

Bob,

When I contacted you at Dynamic Force Institute my focus was on learning how to safely and effectively handle a firearm.  What I learned was that, and so much more!  From statistics, facts, and tidbits every minute was a learning moment of invaluable and essential information.  As an instructor you are a complete delight!  You has an overwhelming sense of sincerity, mission, and made me feel right at home.  I wish everyone who owns a gun would take this class.  I am even going to have my 16 year old daughter and 19 year old son take it! It is one of the best things I can do to prepare them for the world in which we live.  This class could very well save lives.

Hi Bob,

We had a wonderful time taking the course on Sunday, has been a frequent topic of conversation between Jen and I as well as others we talk to. I'm recommending to my friends that carry, or own firearms that don't carry them, to take the course. My ability improved almost immediately, which in turn, raised my confidence. After all, there's no point in carrying a firearm while lacking the ability to correctly, effectively and lawfully use it should the need arise.

I haven't had the opportunity to go over the DVD’s or links provided in your e-mail yet, but I will do so the first chance I get.

Again, thank you for sharing your time, knowledge and hospitality with us, we look forward to returning for range time with the purchase of each additional firearm.

Bob,

You asked, "Did the course meet my expectations?

To be perfectly honest, the way you presented the material, and yourself, it far exceeded any expectation I had.

As as a new shooter, handling a firearm can be very intimidating. At least for me it was.  The personal instruction that you provided, made me feel comfortable and not intimidated with a firearm. I want to thank you for welcoming me into your home and presenting the training in a very professional yet relaxed atmosphere.

The material you covered really opened my eyes to things that I had never thought about twice. Starting with the rules of gun safety, the fight or flight response, disparity of force, Castle Doctrine and PA law to mention just a few.

Teaching is very difficult, and finding a good teacher is even more difficult. I will say this. You are an excellent teacher, and I highly recommend this course to every shooter both young and old. And, need I mention that you get to shoot some really awesome guns. I will definitely be signing up for more training in the future.

Thanks again,

Bob,

Yesterday was an amazing experience.  So much information and all of it so vital to me as a gun owner.

You are a wonderful teacher!  It will take some time to digest all the knowledge imparted to me.

I plan to be vigilant in practicing and expect to become much more comfortable with my handgun.

Both Scott and I have decided to take your advice on many of your recommendations from bedroom door locks to driveway and house motion detectors as well as practice routines.  In addition it will take

some time to begin to study all the additional reading material and videos.  Phew!

When the weather improves I will be back for additional range time.

Thank you so much for an eye opening session.  You have a convert.

Sincerely,

L

Bob,

I was looking for an Instructor based course that would expand my knowledge of firearms, as well as my confidence behind the trigger.

One may ask, why travel 129 miles (one way), or 2 hrs and 40 minutes to attend a class when there are plenty (at least 3+) classes within 20 minutes to one hour of you? Well, that decision came very easily to me. After talking with you on the phone, I was sold based on your confidence, knowledge, honesty, commitment, and the reassurance I received. I was definitely excited about attending the class and it seemed as though the 7 days leading up to it lasted forever!

This course is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Not only did I get to refresh my former training with skills I've already obtained through my years of using firearms, but I was gifted with much more in-depth information and techniques. I feel I'm more well rounded, and certainly more knowledgeable after taking the course.

My absolute favorite topics discussed were levels of awareness, disparity of force, point shooting, and the laws behind everything. I really enjoyed myself.

Bob has a wealth of knowledge, and is highly qualified and recommended.  I met this gentle man in a serene setting, and after 7 hours with him, I already look up to him. He is truly a roll model for me.

I can promise everyone, this is well worth the time, money, and traveling.  Take it, you won't be dissatisfied!

Bob,

I enjoyed the day very much.  I learned a great deal and also realized there is much more to learn and practice. Your expertise was a tremendous help.  I started reviewing the info you sent and gave me which again, is extremely informative, as well as an eye opener. Being somewhat of a novice with handguns, I wanted to take a course that would give me a better understanding of how to use a handgun along with knowing how to be responsible with it. Your Defensive Handgun course accomplished those goals far beyond my expectations.  Not only does it cover the basics, but also reviews real life situations in regards to your rights and how the law intervenes, which surprisingly is not always on your side.  The seven hour course goes by quickly with a good foundation of academics along with plenty of hands on experience with different types of handguns as well as shooting time on the range.  I would recommend this course to anyone thinking of buying a handgun. It's a great course.

Thanks again.

Hey Bob,

It was great meeting you Monday and I am sure both Hannah and Noah learned much from your course.  Hopefully, all the most important parts will stick with them for a lifetime.

It's not very often that I meet a person that I consider to be exceptional, but I feel that I did on Monday.

I hope it does not sound patronizing to you, that's the last impression I'd want to impart.  I am sure we would have some great conversations if we ever get the opportunity.  Thank you again for having us.

I believe strongly in the Second Amendment.  I was very surprised when my 20 year old daughter asked for a firearm this Christmas.  Her 15 year old brother had already received a rifle for his birthday earlier in the year. My next responsibility was to get her and my son some firearm safety training.

You were highly recommended by the folks at Piestrak's Gun Shop so I gave you a call.  It was a good call.

You are a consummate professional, and taught my son and daughter about the safe handling of firearms in a logical, enjoyable, step by step manner.

I really appreciate the fact that you taught them about a number of different types of weapons and how they function, their features, and safeties.  You covered how to properly hold, aim and fire not only their own weapons but several of your own.

I have no doubt that they now have a good foundation to be responsible gun owners.  I would highly recommend you to anyone.

Bob, I thank you again for inviting us into your home.  From my brief time there I can see it is clearly a special place.

I look forward to working with you again in the future.

Take care,

D

Bob,

I enjoyed the training session immensely, it was both interesting and informative.  The presentation was more then adequate in preparing me to handle myself and my handgun effectively.  You were both a competent instructor and a gracious host.  I would not hesitate to recommend your course.

Hi Bob,

We very much appreciate your knowledge and experience in self defense preparation including proper gun handling and safety.  Your patience, willingness to answer any question, and general advice were priceless.  While our initial thoughts to attend the class were directed primarily at gun safety, we gained much more knowledge about the law, self defense procedures and techniques, and general awareness of fundamentals in proper use of firearms and weapons.  The opportunity to practice live fire with targets brought further clarity and real life awareness.  Finally, your specific recommendations in a self defense situation to use the proper words as well as communication to law enforcement personnel (with actual script) was 100% aligned to the defense of the officer involved in the Ferguson, MO shooting. As further evidence of your knowledge in a self defense situation, the procedures outlined were 100% correct in what to say and do for legal defense as well.

Thanks,

J&K

Dear Bob,

Ken and I found your DFI course informative and interesting. We both feel that your course provided us a pathway designed to advance our education on gun safety, self-defense and the many laws.

We truly appreciated the fact that this was a one on one educational seminar held within a personal home setting versus attending a seminar with 25 or more students in a large classroom, where many distractions can and do occur.

From Ken's perspective:

  1. He liked the detailed explanations about the different types of  ammunition-The information you provided regarding ammunition choices.

  2. The viewpoint of the law.

  3. Enabling us to shoot the different gun calibers.

  4. Information regarding safety and self-protection in the event of  home invasion.

From my perspective-I always find these issues overwhelming when given all this new information. In order to process all this, I will need to review, read and take the time to educate myself on the many areas that gun-ownership entails at my own pace. Ken will be by my side learning, and of course explaining things that I may not grasp immediately!

I liked:

  1. all the available links that you have included in the class files - both Ken and I  have already begun to read some of the materials about the law, various guns and self-defense.

  2. being able to learn the basics of gun safety from a professional.

  3. being able to have the Hands-on experience with the various guns - as this will help me decide which gun/s  and the necessary paraphernalia to purchase.

  4. knowing that you are an available resource for future reference in the many areas of your expertise.

  5. the home defense/safety information will help us decide on other options to defend our home and ourselves.

  6. you were attentive to our personal needs during the seven-hour class....Thank-you!

It was truly our pleasure to have made your acquaintance, Bob, and we are looking forward to returning for further training in the future.

Be well!

Sincerely,

K&D

Hi Bob,

It was my pleasure to meet you and take your course.   You are an exceptional instructor.  You explained everything in terms that I could understand.  Your examples were easy to follow and interesting.  Your knowledge of the material covered was apparent.

The time flew by.   Thanks for all the links in your email.  I have already told several of my friends about the course.  I will be in touch when I purchase my gun.

Have a great week.

Bob,

I can't thank you enough for the great instruction you gave Sandy and I yesterday.  The material covered was incredibly beneficial for each of us, despite our broad range of experience.  The most important takeaway, is that Sandy is much more comfortable with personal protection since having taken the course.  That alone would have made the course worth it for me, but I gained much more than that.

As far as content, you covered so much more than I could have imagined.  Too often people who carry forget about the responsibility and all consequences that can result from protecting oneself with a firearm.  The information on de-escalating a situation, step by step guide to the progression of actions to get the attacker to stop, and the actions one should take during the aftermath are absolutely invaluable.

Also, the explanation of the "fight or flight" response is something that I have overlooked.  Sandy and I will keep that in mind during our practice to be sure we have the "muscle memory" necessary to properly react if a situation were to arise.

Again, thank you for an outstanding session yesterday.  We've already started recommended you to our friends and family, and we will be back in the future.

Thanks again.

Dear Bob,

I can not imagine a more ideal learning experience than my recent course at DFI.   The serene setting is unlike any I would ever have anticipated.  You open your home and pour yourself out in a sacrificial way.  You are obviously dedicated to creating a unique training environment.

Your thorough introduction [Defensive Handgun One] is so comprehensive it seems unfair to label it as a firearms course.  I have only scratched the surface of the material so generously included in your course packet.  Their is so much available these days on the internet - much of which is "DIS" or "MIS" information.  Having an expert filter through the extraordinary amount of data available, and personally select the most pertinent articles is priceless.  The quality of information is only matched by the superb teaching.  You clearly have a gift.

Our range time - as all aspects of the course - was not rushed.  I really felt spoiled by the individual attention and time to address deficiencies in areas of basic form and fundamentals.  I left with a much better understanding of how I should focus my personal practice, such that future training sessions can be maximized.

Your personal demeanor instantly set me at ease.  It seems that an individual with your diverse interests and experience could find common ground with any concerned citizen.

Not to be an alarmist, but we used to live in "uncertain times" and now it is readily apparent that we live in end times.  We may never be prepared for all potential scenarios - but it reflects both poor judgement and stewardship of God's resources NOT to prepare for the most glaringly obvious.

I sincerely look forward to further developing our friendship as I progress toward my training goals.

May God bless you and your efforts to equip / empower our community.

Bob,

I registered and took your "First Steps + Defensive Handgun" course at Dynamic Force Institute after searching NRA Instructor Programs near my residence in Lycoming County. After receiving a personal call at my home from you, I became more interested in learning about what you had to offer.

Upon arriving at your home, I couldn't help but notice how beautiful, comfortable, and highly conducive to learning your classroom setting turned out to be.

For anyone considering taking a course at DFI, I can assure you, Bob is an honest, stand up guy.  Truly amazing as an Instructor, he is extremely well versed, and goes out of his way in making sure his students are informed, knowledgeable and competent.

The classroom space in his home is something that reminds you of a storybook. Both warm and inviting. He is a top caliber educator, "armed" with decades of knowledge, information and research on the realities of self defense, and on the intricacies of law enforcement interaction, and the law. With countless examples, quotes, statistics and witness accounts, he displays rock solid foundational principles of what it takes to survive in a life or death situation.

Upon entering the live fire portion of the course, the open-air training space offered privacy away from distractions. I learned the firing range was applicable to actual self-defense scenario training on multiple levels. His personal inventory of equipment and firearms included a wide variety of different calibers of handguns appropriate for all levels of experience. He displayed, explained, and supported me through the use of .22’s up through various calibers to the .45 ACP. This offered an introduction to each caliber's shooting qualities, and the differences between these calibers.  He took his time to review basic usage, safety and features; stating the importance of size, weight and caliber, and its effectiveness, ballistic qualities and shortcomings.

I feel this course was certainly a worthwhile investment, one that emphasized safety of self and loved ones. Bob's enlightened spirit, passionate mission oriented style and unwavering patience made the day a complete success. I have received so much pertinent information and guidance, that anything I was able to find on the internet and elsewhere, pales in comparison. It is real, practical, and to the point.

In closing, I am most certain that choosing DFI, and you Bob, for my first course on the basics, safety, the law, and defensive shooting dynamics, was beyond comparison, and I believe I will be a lifelong student of my new mentor. You have my utmost respect, gratitude, and loyalty.

I look forward to our next class together, Professor. Thank you very much!

Hi Bob,

I'd like to start by saying that my wife and I enjoyed taking your class very much. We both agree that we never thought that we would be walking away from an introductory or beginners class learning the quality and quantity of information that you provided us.

Our first impression was how relaxed and hospitable our learning environment was. It felt more like being at a friend’s house verses a sterile learning environment or a cold classroom. You welcomed us into your beautiful home like we were old friends. Due to the small size of the class, the instruction was very hands on, and corrections were immediate when we made mistakes.  By you observing our shooting techniques and telling us how to correct our weak points we both walked away better shooters than when we arrived. I still can't believe the accuracy with which I can hit with both eyes open when I thought I'd never even get on the paper!  Tessa feels that she’s in better control with knowing her trigger reset point and proper trigger pull. She dips the muzzle of her gun much less. Being able to operate the wide variety of guns, and the selection of increasing sized calibers, was a rare opportunity that we would not get anywhere else.

Another section of the lecture, which was probably the most important to me, was the legalities of gun ownership, use, and concealed carrying.  I’ve tried to bring up the subject with several people in law enforcement, i.e. police officers & a constable but, they seem to avoid the subject as best they can. In the past this left me with many unanswered questions about our rights of gun ownership and self defense.

In conclusion, this class exceeded our expectations and we would not hesitate to recommend this class to our like minded friends and family.

Hi Bob,

Sorry for this late response.  I've been busy with my food plots and hunting turkeys! Actually, I’m hunting turkeys as I write this!

First off, Amy and I really enjoyed the class! And have recommended it to several of our close friends, so you may be receiving some calls!  Your knowledge, professionalism, and caring have opened our eyes to several pieces we were missing. We have since ordered several items off Amazon, and adapted them to the areas that you suggested. We are still going through our notes and finding things that we need in order to keep our family safe from home intrusion.  The class itself was very informative and well laid out! You should take pride in yourself in how you teach it.  We still want to bring our son in for some of the training we spoke of.

We will let Piestrak’s Gun Shop know what a great class this was so they can pass it on to others.  That is exactly how we were informed of you!  I'm sure we will be visiting them soon, as Amy really like the Taurus pistol that she shot and I really like that Glock!  When we do, we will be sure to contact you and arrange another visit with our new guns.

Thanks for all the links that you sent and provided on the DVDs.  I haven't been on them yet, but when I am finished fertilizing, liming, etc., the plots, I intend to look at every one.  I am having trouble with finding one items that you thought was a valuable tool for us.  It is the cell phone signal booster without internet connection.  Maybe you sent it in one of those links, so if you did I apologize.  But if you didn't, do you have any information on such an item?

Again, thanks for all that you "opened our eyes to," and please continue in teaching responsible people how to defend and protect themselves!

Sincerely,

J&A

Hi Bob,

It was a great pleasure to take your Defensive Handgun course and getting to know you. As I look back on the course material covered, I think the most important aspect of the training was not the range time learning about my gun and the many other guns you placed at my disposal, but the in depth coverage of the law when handling a weapon, and the repercussions that could arise if one were to use deadly force to control its outcome improperly. I must say, the time I spent with you was eye opening to say the least. I would recommend your school, the course, and you to anyone that is considering the purchase of a firearm and wishes to understand the laws that run concurrent with its ownership and use. Please add my name to your list of very satisfied students that appreciate your knowledge in gun handling and responsibility.

Sincerely,

JT

Bob,

Everything written here, is our honest thoughts and opinions.

My wife and I both took the "First Steps + Defensive Handgun" course at Dynamic Force Institute, where we met Bob. He is the man behind DFI, and is an honest stand up guy, who also is an amazing educator, has a professional attitude, is extremely well informed, and has been kind enough to go out of his way to guide us, at a time where we have a significant need for guidance.

The "classroom" is beautiful, comfortable, and highly conductive to learning. The instructor's classroom manor is that of a high caliber college professor. He is definitely in his element teaching, appears to truly love what he does, and definitely has what it takes to be a top caliber educator. He is well informed, not only on the aspects of civilian self defense, but he is also well versed on the intricacies of law enforcement training. He also has a very good comprehension of what it takes to survive in a life or death situation.

When we entered the live fire portion of the course, we found the range to be private and secluded. There was little to no concern of interruptions, making it easy to concentrate on what you are doing, focus on safety, and on the skills you are being taught. The range is semi-enclosed, and he may soon be adding a heat source for those cold winter classes. The training equipment is all of high quality and there is a wide variety of different form factors and calibers of handguns that he will educate you with, and about. We started out with a .22, and were kindly and encouragingly guided on a tour though the calibers on our way to the 45. This is a rare opportunity that adds a high level of additional value to anyone who wants to know what each caliber and form factor shoots like, and what the actual shooting differences are between different calibers. It is taught with the idea that gun size, weight, and caliber all have an impact on the in-hand experience of shooting a specific gun.

This is definitely an experience worthy of the investment, and it is an investment in the safety of yourself and your loved ones. While the course was excellent, where we become truly thankful for choosing DFI, and meeting Bob, is that we came across a few instances where we needed guidance after the course ended, and Bob has answering all of our questions with well informed answers, in a timely manor and we could easily see Bob becoming a mentor for both of us.

In closing, we are certain that choosing DFI and Bob for our training and education, was the right choice, and we will definitely be taking additional courses and continue learning at DFI.

Bob,

After attending the DFI First Steps Defensive Handgun course with my fiance, and leaving with a vast wealth of knowledge, and her with a new found confidence carrying her weapon, I could not wait to get back for more!

Having had prior training at a few different facilities, including Blackwater, I can honestly say I was blown away! In a world where you are alone... no team, no back up, no calling in the cavalry, all the military and paramilitary "tactical" training and drills are out the window. When you have but a split second, and no more than mere feet to react and save your life, your Advanced Defensive Handgun II is the course to teach just that. The techniques I acquired, although having had touched on some them in previous training, were taught and drilled in a way that could not have been done better! In short, in the real world THIS is the course and training that WILL help you survive.

Many thanks again. It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to train with you and call you a friend.

Bob,

I don't know where to start. The first course was amazing. This Advanced Defensive Handgun II course was even more incredible. The things you taught me will stay with me for a lifetime. You were right when you said this course would be totally different and challenging. It went well beyond my expectations. You made me think of the possible situations I might encounter, and how to respond to them in different ways. You showed me how to carry more effectively in ways I didn't think I could comfortably, as well as how to properly react to a situation.  You provided a very realistic view of how close and how fast things can happen in real life as well as how many things you will need to consider and react to within a few seconds.  I will need more practice on all the techniques you showed me, but with practice they will become second nature and will help me be a more confident and safe gun owner and concealed carrier. The way you broke down the techniques made it very easy to learn and easy to remember. I have done a lot of shooting and practice since taking the First Steps Defensive Handgun course, but after a day with you I realize how much more I need to learn. I know it will take a while but I want to make the things you showed me become subconscious, instinctive responses.

I will definitely mention how impressed I was with the class at Advanced Arms who had originally recommended you.  Since I took my first course I have been recommending everyone I know take your First Steps course.  It is information everyone should know.  You were right in that you could not teach the techniques you showed me this time in the beginner course. Even with a year's practice since my first course, this class was challenging, but a lot of fun!

I will be ordering a new holster shortly followed by a Crimson Trace laser for my carry gun. I am also researching a 380 for another carry gun for different situations.

I will also be buying another frame so I can proudly display my second course certificate alongside my one from my First Steps course.

I am looking forward to watching the DVD you gave me. I try to spend a little time every day on my training. It doesn't always happen, but I feel better when I do.

Thank you my friend for all you have taught me. I will be in touch as I come up with more questions. Learning is never over and your personal safety is something everyone should be constantly trying to learn about and train for. In today's world it is a matter of survival.

Dear Bob,

As a new handgun owner I cannot stress strongly enough how invaluable your DFI Defensive Handgun class has been.  I had never handled a handgun and was even fearful of having one in the house.  I now have the knowledge and confidence needed to own and operate a handgun safely.

And as an educator I must say that your instructional methods are right on the mark!  You keep your  students engaged with hands-on activities and relevant discussions. You impart knowledge with respect and for that I am grateful.  As a novice I was a little leery, but you made me feel comfortable from the start.  You are truly a great teacher!

I especially appreciated your patience on the range....safety first is my motto!

The materials you provided on the DVDs are priceless. I am so excited by what I have learned that I am telling everyone about my training.  There is so much to learn and you made learning fun!  I read a little from the DVDs every night because I want to learn all I can.  I think everyone can benefit from this class, but as a woman I must say that it should be a requirement for all women who want to purchase a handgun.  The tools you recommended to keep me safe both in and outside my home have been ordered...the tactical flashlight, whistle and escape ladder. I owe my increased sense of security to you, my friend.

And yes, I know I still have more to learn. I am very much looking forward to your next class, but I know I must follow your instructions and practice first!  Because of you, I will practice safely and I will enjoy every minute of it.

Be well my friend. I hope to see you again very soon.

M... A proud new member of the NRA!

Bob,

We had an amazing day. Trying to put the experience Amanda and I had into words is quite difficult. Her being new into the firearms world, I couldn't have brought her to a better person to correctly expose her to it. She was nervous about it all at first, but in no time was more than comfortable and ready to learn... And learn she did! Your ability to make the course understandable on every level of the experience is something few people can do. From the safety portion thru the "what if" scenarios , to the hands on, the course is a must-take, for anyone who chooses to own and/or carry a weapon in any capacity.

As for me, I was honestly blown away by the class, not that I am one to critique, but, "second to none" comes to mind. I know you were concerned about my being "bored"… Well, I can assure you I was far from that. Even having extensive training in my background, I picked up a few new skills for myself, and you will be seeing me for further classes, just to give you fair warning.

An amazing course, taught by an amazing teacher, nobody could ask for more! You are doing the world more good than you know, offering your knowledge and time to help ensure people are PROPERLY arming themselves. A profound Thank You to a brother in arms and friend!

Dear Bob,

First, please let me say what an extreme privilege it was being a student in your firearms safety class.

When people asked me, how was training, I immediately correct them by saying that it was not training, but an education in firearm safety. I found your class educational, informative and it sparked many questions that I needed to explore.

As an educator and mentor you are top shelf in my book and what I read on other posts in theirs also. You took the time to answer my many questions even if they appeared rather dumb at times without making me look childish to the rest of the class. Carrying a weapon for me, Is something new which I have to become comfortable with in order to protect myself while dealing with my disabilities.

After your class, I now feel that I can protect myself but, as I said before I left, with practice comes familiarity.

I was very impressed when we all took turns practicing on the ten different guns and how you and the students evaluated together the pluses and minuses of each firearm. It strongly appeared that you was not trying to sell anything but helping the students make an educated decision on what firearm was best suited for them. Bravo Professor, it sure did open my eyes to the misleading, misinformation I was given when searching for a sidearm.

I highly recommend your program for any person who is searching for an excellent course in firearm safety. I will, and without reservation drop your name whenever I can. That you can take to the bank! (But leave your side arm in the car).

Again my deepest thanks, and be assured that you and your wife are in my prayers.

With my best wishes,

Rev. Father B, AOSF, MS, RN-BC

Good morning Bob.

You blew me away.  Your course was above and beyond what I expected, and worth every single penny and more.

If I never shoot a gun (which I will for practice and recreational shooting) again, you’re direction for self-defense was so educational in so many areas. You kept me transfixed with your demeanor!!!  Your interaction with us was great.  Not many people can “mingle” with others in a way that you feel friendship building.

I am amazed what I CAN do with various guns because of your instruction. Your knowledge was evident and abundant. I can go on and on.  You and your class were phenomenal.

Thank you for the cartridges!!!  It means more to me than you know….very kind. Larry and I will go back to Advanced Arms where we picked up your business cards and tell them how valuable and tremendous your classes are. Thank you again.

Sincerely,

A

Bob,

We haven't stopped talking about how much we enjoyed the course. Ed and I had breakfast this morning and both agreed it was one of, if not the best seminar either of us ever attended.

Ed is a heating expert and routinely testifies in court as an expert witness for insurance companies. I am a certified flight instructor at the Forty Fort airport so we both must attend regular seminars to stay proficient.

Your seminar would rank at the very top in our opinion.

I completely lost track of time because I was so engrossed in every topic you covered. I have never before learned so much in such a short time. Also, I am convinced that even though I feel much more capable of handling the handguns I own, I will be much less likely to have to use one of them on another person. I can't thank you enough for that part of the training.

I could go on & on, but will end by saying I feel very, very fortunate to be a member of your circle of friends. There is little doubt we share many of the same values. I will pass this info on to others, and will see you when Jim & Ed purchase their weapon of choice.

Sincerely

Bob,

it was a pleasure taking the defensive handgun course the other day.  Jim, Brian and I really enjoyed the class and felt we achieved all the answers to our questions and beyond.  It was very informative, interesting, and enjoyable in the way you presented the material.

We enjoyed shooting the various guns and getting a first hand approach to each one of them.  I personally, will acquire some of those models for my collection in the near future.

I can't put into words how much I learned from your course, but I have a better understanding and approach to owning and operating a handgun.  I’ve told my wife and daughter about the course, and they want to take it in the near future.  (My daughter even more than my wife!)  If we are going to have guns in our household, I want them to learn from an expert Instructor that I have confidence in.

Again Bob, thank you for taking the time to teach three knuckleheads the safety, responsibility, and laws pertaining to owning a handgun. We will see you in the near future.

P.S.  thanks for the recommendation for the "circuit judge" 410/colt 45 rifle.  It is high on my list!  Also, thanks for showing me the proper way to hold a handgun. I will practice with my handguns until it is instilled in my subconscious.

Hi Bob,

Just wanted to say that the DFI First Steps / Defensive Handgun Course was simply fantastic.  I admit to being apprehensive about the whole experience at first, but quite quickly became very comfortable.

You have a wonderful, easy-going manner, and I look forward to meeting with you again once Joe and I purchase our guns.  By the way, we have both acquired our CCW.

I could, very honestly, think of nothing negative to say about the course.

There were a few aspects that I especially appreciated.  The opportunity for Joe and I to attend together, at a time convenient for us,  and have a private class with you.

The way you sort of 'acted out' various scenarios - for instance situational awareness and use of the word STOP; also,  the response for defensive shooting.  Your approach to teaching the handling of these situations really made them stick in my head.  And, that's the point, right?  I DO have my cell phone charged.  I DO have my whistle on my keychain.  I DO leave a store with my keys in my hand.  I DO now look people in the eye when I pass.  Hopefully one less  person - me -  in the victim pool.

I enjoyed learning about the various kinds of guns and ammo - and shooting them was a blast!  Pun intended!

Also, thanks for that ton of information on the DVDs you provided. I'm sure that ANY reference material we might need is there.

I would recommend this class to everyone.

You're the best!

Proud to call you friend,

JB

Dear Bob,

Art and I wanted to thank you for the very thorough "NRA F.I.R.S.T. Steps + DFI Defensive Handgun class.  You came highly recommended by my niece who said "if you do nothing else this summer, TAKE THIS COURSE."  She is hard to impress, so I took her at her word and we signed up.

While Art and I have both operated handguns in the past, it was not often or recent, thus the ability to shoot both our own and some of yours was a great feature of the class.  We particularly enjoyed the fact that the classroom work was very thorough so was a good lead-up to the actual hands-on experience at the end of the day. I have a very short attention span, but the 7+ hours of this class just flew by.  We were reluctant to leave, but kept thinking of your patient wife who willingly puts up with all these strange people in your house all day, and on a weekend, no less!

The value of this class to us was way more than how to select and safely use a firearm.  The examples that were peppered throughout the lectures, the review of laws, your recommendations on home security, self defense (without a gun) demonstrations, what to say and when to say it, and your analysis of the different types of firearms and the benefits and drawbacks of each, were all invaluable in presenting a complete picture of the subject.  Art particularly liked the links to the loose-fitting clothing lines that accommodate "carrying."  The experience was much, much more than we expected. And your personal style and ability to coach us through the exercises were very much appreciated.

I really have no suggestions for improvement.  The only thing I can offer future students is the admonition that taking your course and reviewing all the links and material you send as part of the class is like drinking from a fire hose.  It is a lot to absorb at one sitting.  That is good, as it will force us to continue our education by a careful review of the materials provided as we hone our skills.

We now consider you a coach, mentor, and friend, so we expect to be seeing you again!

Many blessings on you and your family!

Hi Bob!

It was such an enormous pleasure to meet you! I cannot say ENOUGH about the course I attended! In a word, it was, astounding!

Allow me to elaborate. You were SO easy and approachable when it came to questions that may or may not be what we "lay people" would consider "stupid.”

There was NOT a question you didn't answer with confidence and accuracy and without making me/us feel like an idiot. Your passion about firearms and their proper use was more than evident. I, for one, came into this class having NEVER fired a gun in MY LIFE! I purchased my weapon first, then came to your class. At the end of your instruction, I felt SO confident... Not only about MY firearm, but about the myriad of weapons available!

You went WAY beyond firearms and explained basic "legalese" as well as some common, and may I say "uncommon" sense about self-defense!  Many of those ideas were simply MIND-BLOWING!!

All in all, it was a WONDERFUL day in a BEAUTIFUL home in a BEAUTIFUL country setting with a man who TRULY cares, and has a deep passion to express his wealth of knowledge to those of us who are thirsting for that information.

Bob, I CANNOT WAIT to reacquaint myself with you on the range and further my skills! I began my training today as a student, but I left as a friend...but a friend who still regards you as a "Master Trainer"...

I smiled all the way home and couldn't WAIT to tell my loved ones all of the things I'd learned! I realize there is SO MUCH MORE to learn! BUT WHAT AN INCREDIBLE BEGINNING!!

God Bless you, my man! ...and with my sincerest appreciation,

K

Bob,

I so much enjoyed your class and meeting you. And I am very happy I now have a weapons expert (and friend) for life.

Your course was fantastic. I only wish it was longer. I liked the history, the technical details and love the stories and examples. And, every bit of it was important.

For example, I don't know if it was just my ignorance, but I didn't know that just because the cartridge fits, it doesn't mean it's a good idea. I really, really need to know that. The flight or fight response, the simple defensive posture and "stop," the laws and how to deal with police. (I'm still going to try crying.)

I especially have to thank you for the extra help and consideration you gave me because of my special needs. I'm no longer reluctant to buy a "mere" .22 and have much more confidence about my ability to use a semi-automatic.

I hope to see you soon. Thank you soooo much.

Dear Bob,

I want to thank you again for the incredible training I received in your class. The tools & knowledge I left your home with were invaluable. From something as simple as carrying a "dummy" wallet & buying deadbolts to dispelling the myth that a "little girl" can't handle a "big gun". By the time I left your house, my confidence level increased 100%. Just think of where it will be after practicing.

I would strongly urge anyone who owns, or is contemplating owning a firearm to take this course. I would even challenge someone who doesn't "like" guns or thinks they're "scary" to come & spend the day with you so they can make an INFORMED decision, and not one that is based on fear, or political rhetoric.

A good man knows how to protect their family. A great man makes sure his family knows how to protect themselves. I'm blessed to be married to a great man. This was the best birthday gift, ever.

Sincerely,

MS

"Hi Bob,

Thank you so much for the copious amounts of info. It will certainly be used, and used often.

I did find training to be most beneficial and the interaction was wonderful as well. I was quite glad to for the small class size, and I feel it helped me more, and made me less nervous. I enjoyed the multitude of guns I was able to fire and found that my firearm is a bit more than I expected, and will take much more practice for me to get familiar with the "snap".

I can't thank you enough for the ease with which you taught, the knowledge that you imparted, and the lasting impression you made. I will certainly recommend you to anyone I find looking for firearms training.

I also took your home safety advise to heart and have scheduled several appointments over the next week to better secure my home.

I look forward to hopefully training more with you in the future. I'm also curious if you train people for shooting competitions? As I'm thinking I would like to venture into that and am not sure where to start.

Again, thank you so much. It was a pleasure working with you!

Dear Bob,

I cannot find adequate words to express my gratitude for the knowledge and confidence I gained as a result of spending the day with you during the First Steps+Defensive Handgun course. The course was much more than the basic beginner gun course we anticipated and exceeded both my, and my husband’s expectations.

I came to you as someone who was intimidated by firearms and was hesitant to have one in my home. Safety was my primary concern especially with three young children. You thoroughly addressed that issue and gave us great home safety and self defense suggestions that we have already implemented with the kids. Those tips alone made the class worthwhile. The kids love the whistles!

We're still working our way through the DVD’s. What a great resource!

Never in a millions years would I, or my husband have thought I could fire a. 45, but with your support I did... And actually hit the target! We will be back for range time once we purchase our firearms. When the kids are older, they will definitely be coming to you as well.

Your First Steps+ Defensive Handgun course should be required for everyone who owns, or is about to purchase a firearm. Thank you for helping us protect our family to the best of our ability, and thanks for everything you taught us.

Hi Bob:

All I can say is WOW!!!   Your DFI First Steps + Defensive Handgun course was so much more then my wife and I expected.  Our mindsets of personal safety for us and our children were heightened by your insight and knowledge. My wife and I have never owned, or even fired a handgun prior to the day we spent with you. We left with the knowledge and confidence to handle, load, fire, and clean the vast array of handguns you made available to us. To be honest, my wife was not looking forward to spending the day learning about, or ever shooting a handgun.  The day after your course, she was telling me her co-worker has land that she offered to let us practice shooting on!!, . . . & SHE is making the plans for us to go.  You turned her negativity towards guns into an appreciation of personal safety & a desire to advance in her ability to handle and shoot handguns.

We can not thank you enough for the knowledge, training, & follow up materials we obtained in our day with you.  We really appreciated your availability & friendship moving forward in our new endeavor. I'm sure we will be taking you up on that as well as scheduling other classes you have available.

Talk to you soon,

M

PS:  I joined the NRA and obtained my PA license to carry permit! Our water filtration system, tactical lights, hawks, etc are also ordered.  Thanks for helping me "see the light".

Bob,

I would just like to let you know that before our training on Saturday I was very reluctant and a bit unenthusiastic to use a firearm of any kind.  I had no experience and did not know what to expect. Let me say I was not only excited to go outside that afternoon, but I believe I have found a new sense of confidence that I did not realize I possessed.  Your training, discussions and demonstrations really opened my eyes and made me think about things that I tend to ignore every day. Your patience and advice gave me the courage to go outside on Saturday and try something I never dreamed I would do!! I would like to thank you for your positive reinforcement throughout the day. I will remember everything we learned (especially the safety procedures). You had quite an impact on my future and I am very grateful. The atmosphere was very warm and made me feel extremely comfortable. I look forward to Practicing, Practicing, Practicing. Mike and I had a great discussion with our children upon our arrival home that evening.  Thank you for thinking of them. I have passed along your card to friends and family in hopes that they too will take the leap to become educated and safe. I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to meet you and train with you.

Sincere Thanks,

Hi Bob.

I cannot put into words how much we enjoyed the course yesterday and getting to know you. I like the fact that you were more than an instructor. You quickly became a friend.  The four of us continued talking about the course over dinner, and then Karen and I continued talking about the day well  into the evening.  If I had any criticism, constructive or otherwise, I would pass it along.  The truth is, I found nothing wrong with the course, the presentation, the shooting, location, or anything else.

Best of all is your style.  I was amazed how quickly and deftly you adapted to the fact that we had a new shooter with us.  Yet, you did not bore any of the rest of us. Honestly, I learned something with just about every word out of your mouth.  I had not expected that. I thought going in that this would be good for my wife, but would only be review for me. Wow, was I wrong!

Your insight into the minds of the bad guys, as well as law enforcement is immensely interesting. It helps to know what we are dealing with “out there.”  I will recommend this course to friends and family without reservation. I am looking forward to the weather breaking and getting a chance to work on the techniques you taught me. I never thought I could point shoot, but there I was doing it. Kudos to you, kudos to your wife for allowing us in your home to take this course. We will be looking at the DVD’s tonight while everything is fresh.

I look forward to getting to know you better, and to see you for future coursework.

Bob,

I had an extremely informative and pleasurable day. Thank you! I left class with all the information that I possibly hoped to have obtained, and more. It would be difficult for me to choose the information that was most helpful. I honestly found it all to be relevant and interesting. I'm already looking forward to the next class. Once I've practiced quite a bit of course! I was extremely comfortable in class and felt that I was definitely where I needed to be. I'll be recommending your class to everyone that could possibly benefit.

I cleaned my gun for the first time! I was happy to see that it's relatively easy to maintain. I had to resort to buying the Critical Defense ammunition online. It was even tough to find it in stock there! I'm thinking that I'm going to end up buying a speed loader and snap caps online as well. I'm anxious to begin practicing! I'm going to try to start target practicing regularly as well.

I'm able to open the discs, thank you. I put the first one in and got engrossed in the material.

I'll be sure to be in touch with any questions or concerns, or if I get a new gun. In the mean time, it will be practice, practice, practice for me until I'm ready for the next class.

Thank you again!

Hi Bob,

I really enjoyed the day with you yesterday. The course was informative, interesting, and exactly what I was hoping for, especially for Joann and Karen.  Even though I have some shooting experience, I learned a lot. Specifically, topics I found useful included information about the different calibers, types of ammo, firearm models and features, discussion about safety, laws, and real life scenarios. Having the opportunity to handle several different types, models, and calibers was fun and informative. I also noticed, and appreciated that your course material is well organized and thought-out, and you presented it well.  We all appreciated that you shared your knowledge and experience in a way that was easy to relate to. You never came across in an intimidating or condescending manner. I haven't yet had a chance to check out the DVD’s and links that you provided, but I'm eager to do so.

Bob, I will be sure to recommend you to appropriate people. Thanks again for a good day. I’m looking forward to spending time with you again soon.

Bob,

It was a pleasure meeting you, and I look forward to meeting you again for some range time once I purchase a handgun of my own.  The First Steps Defensive Handgun course is aptly named, and it is described well on your website.  Although I consider myself a competent and intelligent person, I have never owned or handled a handgun before; I felt it was my responsibility to take a course that started with the basics.  I'm sure my nervousness and inexperience showed as I handled the firearms for the first time.  Your presentation, discussion, and instruction helped me feel comfortable asking questions and getting through those "first steps."

I got everything I expected from the training, as well as some new ideas to think about regarding basic home and personal security: lighting, a safe room, and the five things I should carry.  When I got home, I jotted down a few more details about the training lest I forget them, but then I started to peruse the DVDs you included with my student packet and I realized that everything (and a lot more) from the training was there.  I also appreciate your follow-up email with a list of the firearms used in class. At home, I wrote down what I remembered, so it was good to get the list of firearms later

Handling and shooting the firearms was important to me, and that will help me choose well.  First and foremost, I will be looking for a gun that fits my hand well, yet is not too large that I wouldn't want to carry it as I become more confident in my abilities.  I'm hoping to choose a gun which will be fun to shoot and practice with, as well.

You gave me plenty of encouragement and told me I did well, but as I self-evaluated later, I think I may have rushed while shooting and didn't maintain a good point and shoot grip after the first few shots -- After the second or third shot, I think I was trying to look at where the holes were appearing on the plate instead of making sure I was still pointing at the target (rookie mistake).  If there is any constructive criticism you held back in order to make sure I had a good experience--which I did, please tell me; It will motivate me as I take the next steps.

As I mentioned, I appreciate attention to detail, and I believe that the quality in the things we produce reflect the qualities in those who produce them -- that is why I signed up for your training. Your attention to detail came through on your website and in your personal communications.  I was not disappointed.

Stay well; thank you again,

D

Bob,

I first want to say thank you!!  Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to meet with me and teach the DFI-Defensive Shotgun class for me. I couldn't be happier with my experience.

I wanted a way to protect my family.  I never owned a firearm before.  I never went hunting, trap/skeet shooting before, nor have I gone to a range before.  My experiences was zero!!  I am happy to know that it did not matter about these things. Taking this class with you eased my mind and helped greatly with the knowledge and understanding of self-defense.  You want to think that you can handle any situation that arises, and I know that the DFI-Defensive Shotgun course I just completed will help me with doing that.

I want to say thank you again.  I feel comfortable with knowing that I have the tools and knowledge to defend my family.  I know you said that I would have a friend in you anytime I needed... Just know that you have a friend in me!!  Always...

It was a pleasure meeting you and I’m looking forward to talking to you again,

M

Hi Bob!

It was certainly wonderful to meet you.  I finally got a second to write back to you as I took a half day off of work for my birthday. Jason has already gotten me my second gift, a beautiful Taurus 9mm.  I'm so excited!  He just bought some rounds the other day too.  I have it sitting here beside me on the couch. I can't wait to visit you again so you can "meet" our newest addition and we can test her out on the range.

I just want to let you know what a priceless gift you have given me by holding that class for us!  I could never possibly thank you enough for all of the knowledge you have so selflessly given to both Jason and me. We appreciate it so very much!  Between the one on one time and the plethora of take home materials, we have an arsenal of gun knowledge at our fingertips (pun intended). We haven't gotten through it all yet.

I liked the fact that you limit your class size to only 4 people, it definitely helps the students' concentration and focus. I really enjoyed the historical review of both the handguns and the ammo. I have been telling a lot of people, friends, family and even people I just met about your class and how much I learned!  As I told you before, I came onto your beautiful property and I walked in to your gorgeous home not knowing what to expect, and with a bit of anxiety regarding guns and handling them. But my nervousness was dispelled and my fears quieted as you welcomed us, and treated us like family from the minute we arrive until the minute we left. Thanks so much for your generosity and your hospitality!  I feel like I have known you forever!  I don't know if that happens with all of your students, but we felt so welcomed, as though we were long time friends.  The time just flew by and with every minute I became more and more comfortable, not only with handling the weapons, but in firing them also. I really liked how you had us hold the weapons and stand in a shooting stance, and learn all the basics to get the feel of it.  As someone who had never handled a gun before, it was great to gain that confidence in holding the weapon itself.  I really enjoyed shooting all of the weapons, that was an empowering experience!  I had no idea how I would fare, but I was pleasantly surprised in my accuracy. I am also proud that I had no hesitation and no fear shooting any of them.  And thanks for letting me keep the plate. I can't wait to show my Mom and Dad!

The material you went over was comprehensive and well organized in both presentation and pace. I would like to have had a handout of some of the material, perhaps the information on the castle doctrine and the laws regarding concealment as we were going over it.  Just to take some notes along side of the info so that when reviewing, I remember what my notes refer to. And handouts on sight picture, and the distance you have the right to defend yourself, tap-rack-bang, slow is smooth and smooth is fast, no cross draw holster, the purpose is to STOP the threat, and some info on how to get involved with IDPA (oh wait! It’s all on the DVD’s!).

I thoroughly enjoyed the class and will forever be grateful to you for taking the time to provide us with this knowledge.

You, sir, are a class act, and truly a friend for life.  Thank you for adding the extra layer of safety and protection to our lives. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Sincerely,

S

Bob,

First of all, I want to thank you for teaching this course. I'm sorry I am writing you so late. It has been a very busy week.

Stacy will be writing also, but I know she was very impressed and is so happy now to have the knowledge.

As for the course I found it very exciting, I loved the history aspect of the weapons and was truly surprised as to the age of some of the semi auto handgun designs. It was amazing to me how they only slightly changed over so many years. The course was great, I would not change anything. We were so happy to fire the different caliber guns and with that knowledge, we went out and purchased our first gun. We bought a Taurus PT 111 Millennium G2. 9mm.

We also wound up taking a day off from work and sat in the courthouse for 4 hours so we could get our carry permits.

We did tell Joe at Nimrods how great the course was. We are also giving you card to a lot of others. We handed them out at the crime watch meeting, and to group at the courthouse, as well.

We are very happy we took this course, and would love to set up some time to come over again to run a few rounds through our gun. I know you said you would go over breaking it down and cleaning it. That would be very helpful.

Thank you again!

J

Bob,

Let me start off by saying that Ben and I have a totally new perspective on self defense after taking your class. It was nothing short of amazing!!! We were so impressed that we spent the next three hours talking about it nonstop with Ray and Sandy. Needless to say, we all walked away with the same satisfied feeling. I was so impressed that I called my mom immediately and told her she needed to take the class. Jason did the same with his parents.

The hours absolutely flew by and left us both wanting more. Your vast amount of knowledge of the subject matter was impressive. When coupled with your effective, and at times hilarious, teaching style you truly have something special. The best testament to this would be the fact that we can't stop talking about the class, how much we learned, and how passionate and dedicated you are as a teacher. From the basics of gun designs and features, to your tried and true self defense techniques, we both walked away feeling confident that we will not go through life as helpless victims. And better yet should the situation arise you have armed us with both the techniques and knowledge to get through such an event alive.

The course material was broad based and truly fascinating. From the use of flashlights and whistles to the legal ramifications of having to defend oneself, you really instilled in us not only the value of self defense, but also the great responsibility that comes with it.

I entered your home as a novice, intimidated by my 9mm, and left without a hint of fear when using it. Not only that, but the chance to get to use so many different styles and calibers of guns was truly an eye opener. I never in a million years thought that I would be able to fire a .45, but with you by my side not only did I, but it left me wanting more!

You truly love what you do and that really came across. We felt very welcome in your home, and truth be told were a little sad to leave. Not only was the class great, but we really appreciate the fact that you are willing to continue to mentor us on our journey. We are going to take you up on your offer to help us create our own shooting range and look forward to seeing you again. Please let us know when you would be available.

We knew instantly that you meant it when you said that we "didn't just have you for a day, but we have you for life". Rest assured that the feeling is mutual. We look forward to many years of fruitful friendship. We are truly blessed to have had you enter our lives. We are already better people because of it. I could continue to go on (at the risk of this turning into a novel), but suffice it to say that, "never before has anything exceeded my expectations as much as your class.”  To those who are thinking about taking the class I would simply say, "do it.” It will change your life. I know it changed mine.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Hi Bob,

I am writing to thank you for the excellent course on firearm safety and training, and home and self defense.  Your course is tremendously comprehensive and complete, and so expertly presented.  I am very grateful to you for the instruction and all I learned to keep myself, my family, and our home safe.

When I walked into your house, I knew nothing.  I had never even touched a firearm.   After your course, I left with more than I ever expected.  I did present key points to my family and now my husband, who never wanted to own a gun or have one in our house, wants to come to you for the same training with my second oldest son, Joseph. They want to know if you are available this weekend.  My husband is a medical doctor and has to work around his call schedule. Please email me back to let me know if any of these dates would work for you.

Also, today Robert went with me to buy my own firearm. I do want to schedule some time for myself to work with you to practice using this gun properly. I could come at the end of Bob and Joseph's training, or on my own. I am so grateful for all your knowledge, expertise, and help.

Hi Bob,

I have so many wonderful things to say, so where do I begin?

Let me start by saying Thank you. I must admit I felt a little nervous about taking your course, but upon meeting you I was completely put at ease. The course material was so valuable and well presented. Bob, you are truly amazing!!!!

Shooting with you gave me the confidence I needed. I went shooting today and felt so much better about handling my gun. In my opinion the course is perfect, so please don't change a thing. I am looking into getting a Keltec p32, when I get it I will let you know. I will tell anyone I know that is looking for a safety/self defense course to look no further. Bob, thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with me. I will be forever grateful.

See you soon!

Bob,

Thank you for your dedication and passion for teaching us how to use our guns, how to have fun using them, and how to use them safely, and for sharing a part of your life with us. It is rare to find someone who gives of themselves as you do. If it were up to me, you would have a line out your door waiting to take your training classes, because I can't think of anyone more knowledgeable, or who can teach from the most experienced, down to the beginner, like me. I would tell anyone and everyone, that you make sure the student knows the information backward and forward, and they will get the expert instruction to feel secure about using their guns.

Your teaching style is one that I can really relate to. You have a great knowledge of the subject matter and an outstanding talent for presenting it. You are also very patient with everyone.

I really could have listened to your stories and examples for days. I also want to thank you for the small group size. Anyone who hasn't taken your class is missing out! I'm looking forward to coming and shooting with you again, and eventually working up to the advanced level.

Thanks a million,

M

Bob,

From the day I made my first call to you to schedule my lesson I was able to immediately start a very special relationship with you. You are an instructor like no other I have met. You are a kind, gentle, and friendly person. Very knowledgeable in gun safety, gun regulations and laws, and have a world of life experience with self defense and personal safety.

I left this class very satisfied and believe I got more than I paid for. In a single day, the skills I acquired will be a great foundation for how I deal with gun ownership and self defense in the future. I will strongly recommend you to everyone for this kind of training. It’s obvious you love what you do, and are both personable and passionate.

Bob, you will remain my hero for the long run.

Bob,

I want to thank you for welcoming me into your beautiful home for the DFI First Steps + Defensive Handgun class.  It made for a welcoming, comfortable, and relaxed environment that was very conducive to learning.  For someone like me who had very little experience with shooting (and also knew next to nothing about self defense in general), it provided a wealth of knowledge on many topics.  I also picked up many home safety and self defense tips that can help in so many situations that those alone would make the class worthwhile!

You shared many great tips on how to select a gun, and how to safely handle it without unintentionally being a threat to myself or others around me.  I learned how to effectively defend myself using a gun in such a way that I hopefully will never have to fire it, but now I know enough to do so if necessary.  The opportunity to try so many different types of guns was a real bonus.  I was thankful that you took the time to go over the possible types of malfunctions that could (and did!) occur with semi-automatic handguns, and how to deal with them.  I also appreciated that you were able to diagnose and correct the mistakes I was making in my shooting stance and grip.  I was grateful for the information about different types of ammunition and how to select the appropriate types for practice and for self defense, since I had no idea how to choose the right types from the multitude of available choices.

Since no one can really know how they will react in a stressful confrontation, I think it was extremely helpful that you explained how our bodies react and our subconscious minds work to enable us to focus on the threat and deal with it.  Now I understand that it's not just that I need to practice shooting at a target, but I need to practice the mechanics of getting my gun out and on-target quickly so that if the need ever arises, I will be able to do so without thinking about it.

I was glad that you took the time to go over the legal aspects - both the legal rights and requirements for carry and home defense, and the proper way to deal with the legal ramifications if I would be forced to use a weapon in self defense.

The information that you provided on the two DVDs will certainly be a resource that I return to frequently.  As I examined the contents of these DVDs, I was amazed at the broad base of information they contained!

Your patience and experience really serve to put novices like myself at ease.  I was sure going in that I would feel awkward because of my inexperience, but that was never the case.

I've already started working on convincing my wife and my mother-in-law that they need to take this class.  I will definitely be back for the second level handgun course, as well as the First Steps + Defensive Shotgun class.

Thanks Again!

Bob,

Did the course meet my expectations?

No. It did not. It exceeded my expectations.

The atmosphere and environment was exactly what I was looking for - serious yet comfortable. I did not want to attend a classroom environment where the instructor was split between too many students and one on one time could not be afforded, or where the live fire time was minimal.

I was a bit hesitant since it had been so many years since I had handled firearms. I felt that as your student, my hesitancy was understood and recognized, for your presentation actually put me at ease, not only about the prolonged lack of involvement and range time, but also in my admission to myself that, after so many years, I now had some physical complications that I have to compensate for.

I asked you to treat me as a person that never touched a firearm and I felt that you did so. I felt you started at the right place - asking why I was there, which I felt was to gain insight to me, asking which firearms I was interested in, and my intentions with each, which I felt lead into the proper instruction for a person such as myself; introduction to the different hand guns and explanation versus long guns/rifles. Having had actual access to the different firearms and ammunition, and to be able to physically compare such, not only familiarizes oneself with the hardware, but visually confirms exactly what the potential of such is; requiring full respect and proper handling of each. You laid out your presentation well, and descriptively worked your way through the different calibers, weighs, etc. and you also engaged me within the presentation by allowing me to hold the guns, feel the weight comparison, hold the bullets, seeing the lengths and shapes while constantly explaining the characteristics and stats of each.

On the firearm aspect of the course, you covered the permits, carrying a concealed weapon, safety issues and different firearms - pretty much what I expected.

But, you covered things that I was not expecting, such as my stance - you pointed out my target shooting stance, identified when I had unconsciously begun to go into a different stance, and helped me to perfect it. I was used to shooting a target head on - not worried about defensive positions or moves. You not only pointed out the difference, but you explained and showed me the difference and showed me several times by putting me in a victim’s situation and by doing such, you opened my eyes to several things. The ability to distance myself from a perp - this is a type of thinking that I was not engaging. You took me into the self defense aspect, and took me out of the sport. I was raised more on the sport than the self defense. There is a great difference.

The handling of the Law should an incident happen is something that one doesn't really give much thought to, and I wasn't expecting that as part of the course. I was though, glad that it was a covered topic and that card is in my wallet and will remain there. I also made a copy for each one of my home phones.

I was not expecting a lesson on knives, lighting and the whistle. Here I thought I was doing pretty good. I have carried a box cutter all my life - it was something I needed for work many, many years ago and I've always had one in my purse since the 1970's but I didn't know the proper way to use it effectively and now I do, and a blade would be better then a box cutter. I showed you my light and body alarm but I never realized the inadequacies of each until I showed you, and I clearly see them now. I thought my Louisville Sluggers (baseball bats) were a good defensive idea but, I could never swing one in a hallway. That Tomahawk, I mean growing up in CT we were exposed to much Native American culture, we made our own tomahawks as kids - sticks, rocks and twine, never thinking that this type of weapon is something that is still so effective. This portion of the course really opened my eyes and I now look around my house and my person, and ask what I can do different - improve on, and what else I should, or could do?

Now, in all honesty, when you had put me in the situation of being the victim . . . I did not like that at all, but the reason that I did not like it had nothing to do with anything that you did.  I did not like the way that I felt being a victim - being helpless and not knowing what to do, how to react, and react quickly. I did not like it when you showed me that twenty feet away is not far and it was only a matter of seconds before that distance was breached and I saw that I was a sitting duck; nor did I like how easily you were able to knock me off balance due to the way I was standing. That helpless feeling is something that I don't want to feel - it’s something that I have learned to rid myself of.

The range time was very important to me. To be able to fire different hand guns and different calibers was important especially due having had injured two of my fingers. I knew I would have to some how compensate for the loss of strength in my finger grip and I knew the pinky grip would play and important part and being able to fire several different models, allowed me to learn just how I have to compensate. I was surprised because a few of the guns (the revolver was one) I thought that I would have a hard time pulling the trigger, I didn't and the one’s that I thought would be easier - weren't. And, again, I was glad to have the one on one time. In CT, it was all gun ranges - no open firing like here. I was raised in a very strict, regimented and controlled shooting environment, and that had created a comfort zone.

I'm glad that I was able to shoot so many different hand guns. The only thing though that I wish that I had done, was to actually write notes for myself about the differences that I experienced in firing each gun - which one I had to use both hands to pull the trigger, which had the long pull, which really put stress on my injured finger, which were too small for my grip (uncomfortable), what type of trace laser grips you had, and more.

While I was shooting, you pointed out the differences between target shooting and self defense shooting. Also, I was glad when you made comments and pointed out different things that I was doing, and also showed me different ways to help compensate for the lack of strength in the one finger. I have much doubt that I would have received that kind of attentive observation at, and corrected instruction from, the other course instruction agency that I had contact before being given your name.

I really can't negatively criticize the course because it was more than I expected. I was expecting something more like the general safety classes that I had taken many, many years ago. Are there other areas that I want to refresh and learn? Yes. Some involve loading and cleaning which we'll do when I get my own gun. I do want to take further courses. With all the laws changing, and especially with the current heated political situation, I want to do it right... and with your instruction, I feel that I got myself off to a good and proper start.

Bob,

First I'd like to thank you for a day I won't forget. Frankly, I didn't know what to expect from the course, and my experience was far better than anticipated. First, and foremost, let me say that being invited into your beautiful home for instruction threw me completely off guard. I expected to be in a more traditional classroom type setting. Your hospitality was truly appreciated. I had a great time!

Your style of instruction was unexpected as well ... In a good way. You were patient, incredibly informative, candid, and very serious. Calm and in control comes to mind as well. I find your methods excellent. One thing that strikes me as I reflect on the course, is your subtle (and not so subtle) repetition of important points which did not seem repetitious at the time. Over and over, and in different ways you hit key points. The sheer amount of information you provide is almost overwhelming... Almost. I needed to hear all of it. That being said, I'm extremely happy you provided the DVD’s which I can use at home to reinforce what I learned, and to continue my education.

The experience of shooting with you as my instructor was everything I had hoped for. Your confidence and calm demeanor helped me gain confidence and calm my nerves. The opportunity to fire the variety of handguns you supply was just... Fantastic! I won't hesitate one bit in recommending this course to my friends and acquaintances. You're one hell of a teacher.

Thank you.

Good Morning Bob,

I wanted to wait until I had a chance to review some of the materials and digest the day before I answered your email. I would first like to thank you for an amazingly quick day. That had to be the fastest 6-7 hours I have spent in a long time. You covered a lot of material in that time. I definitely got more than I expected in that day. You reaffirmed a lot of my beliefs and gave me lots of things to think about.

A few thoughts on the day:

I liked that you went beyond guns to discuss home security and personal security, from lighting to safe rooms to locks. I hadn't thought of the solid door. The best defense of your home or business is light. Yes, there are criminals that will go for anything but most with at least one brain cell will move on to the next house if the lights come on.   I also use timers with random settings on lights in the house so there is no pattern to the lights.  I had never thought of the hawk, but that is one amazing tool that I will soon own.  One thing you went over but I is awareness of your surroundings. People do not pay enough attention to who and what is around them. Walking in cities, stay in the middle of the sidewalk, not walking next to buildings where they can be grabbed and dragged in. Walking to a vehicle, day or night, pay attention if anyone looks like they are following you, hanging around, watching you etc.

I liked your confrontational response training. I hadn't thought about the body's response like that.   Hopefully I will never be in the situation but I now feel a lot more confident if I were. Also what you said about notifying the police was very important. I have your response card in my wallet next to my CCW permit where it will always be.

Your correction on my stance and grip were nice improvements also. As I had told you, I have shot for years, but I never had any formal training. My accuracy improved with that, and I will be trying it out later today at the range. Practice is key and I will be doing more of it whenever I can.   I look at it as cheap "life insurance".

It will be a LONG while before I get through all the information on the DVDs. There is an incredible amount of information on them. It took me a few minutes to remember how to easily open Apple files on a PC but once I remembered that I was off reading and watching.

I gave my wife and son the whistles. They were both thrilled with them, especially my son. I told you a little about what happened with him at school so any method of defense that makes him feel safe is a good thing now.

That brings up something my wife asked me last Sunday after I talked her ear off about the training. I have been taking my son to the range with me to introduce him to shooting and gun safety. He is at the age to be curious about guns so I think it's good that he learn what to do even just to stay away from one at his friends house. Back to the question,  do you have a course for kids?  I would like to start him off right.

I was talking about your class at Advanced Arms yesterday when I was there for a few things. I will be recommending you to others whenever I can.

Thanks again for a very rewarding day full of good information. I look forward to keeping in touch with you. I definitely consider you a friend.

HI Bob,

First let me tell you that I learned so much in your class, and I truly enjoyed it. The time flew by. You gave me so many practical ideas I never even thought of. Since it was my first introduction to firearms, I have no idea how you could possibly make it any better for a beginner.

I now have my Concealed Carry permit, and purchased a Ruger 380 with Laser. I ended up at Hunting Depot in Naticoke after speaking to some of the men waiting to renew their licenses, and they gave me a good price.

I would love to be able to come back up to learn more about my weapon, such as cleaning and care. Of course to be able to shoot it more to become more comfortable. I must be honest that I have not watched the video's yet but it was a very hectic week. I will check out the DVD's this afternoon.

If you have a Saturday or Sunday open I would love to come back up at your convenience.

Again thank-you for all the knowledge transfer, you got me thinking about a lot of things that I hadn’t considered before.

Bob,

I was very impressed with your First Steps + Defensive Handgun course. As someone who has been carrying concealed for a long time and is an experienced shooter, I’ll admit that some of the course was a review for me, but that was to be expected. Even still, there was a lot of information that you brought to my attention for the first time, especially considering the ins and outs of the laws behind using deadly force. The course was very in depth and informative. My main motivation for taking this class was as a prerequisite for your more advanced courses. My friend who took the course with me was not as experienced and I was very impressed by watching you instruct him on how to properly shoot each handgun during our range time. Whenever he had a problem getting on target, you immediately saw what he was doing wrong and helped him quickly correct the problem and it showed down range! It is obvious that you have a gift for teaching and your passion for it showed from start to finish. I will definitely be back for the more advanced courses as soon as we can schedule them.

Thanks again!

Bob,

I had a great time the other day, I can't thank you enough.  I told you most of my training was done by myself, by doing research online.  I have learned so much more in six hours with you, than I have from the hundreds of hours on the internet.  It’s a huge difference and better learning experience when you have a person like yourself who actually makes learning fun.  A lot of your points I never even thought about until I took your class.  It was extremely beneficial and worth every penny, I can’t thank you enough.

I can’t tell you how much I've learned, and just the little things that you said will stay in my mind while putting them into practice to improve my skills.  I am 110% certain you will see me again.  Even if it’s just for a range time so you can give me some more little pointers.  Also, once I practice more, I plan on taking your Defensive Handgun 2 class.  I’m also going to try and participate in an IDPA match if I can fit one into my schedule.  At first, I didn’t think I was “good enough” and was a little insecure with my gun in trying IDPA, but after taking this class I feel much more confident and safe around my gun, and other guns.  Also, before this class I was not sure what to do in a defensive situation, but since your class I am a lot more comfortable about what to do, and how to go about speaking with, and dealing with law enforcement.  Again I can’t thank you enough for the things you have taught me, it was extremely beneficial.

The basic defensive pistol class was such an eye opener, a great deal of fun, and extremely informative.  I thought the class went extremely well and you kept it interesting.  You went over a whole lot more than I expected, and I thank you for the information packet, the DVD, and the links you provided, they will definitely be read and be put to good use in my continued education about firearms.

Again, I can't thank you enough, I had a great time.

Sincerely,
M

Bob,

I have multiple decades of training and experience in Hand to Hand Combat, and many years of Firearms Training. Having completed the courses at DFI with you as my instructor, I have NEVER been more impressed !!!  You are a WEALTH of knowledge and experience and a superior Teacher.  I was never rushed and many of my previously learned tactics were proven false.  I cannot recommend the DFI courses strongly enough.  These courses are the "real deal", from the basics to the most advanced tactical training.

Respectfully,

J

Bob,

Sorry for the delayed response. It's been a very hectic week in the classroom as the school year is coming to an end. I wanted to first off thank you again for all you did for us on Sunday. I came into this not knowing at all what to expect and got more out of this course than I ever imagined.

After our course on Sunday, I have not stopped thinking about all we learned and how happy I am that we had the opportunity to learn what we did from you. As far as your instruction goes, I thought you explained everything very thoroughly and took the time to really make sure we left there with a brain full of information to reflect upon. I had very little background on the laws and regulations of carrying and/or using a firearm. I found that you explained and left us with enough resources to really get a great understanding of this. Coming from a Martial Arts background, I really found the scenarios you gave us to be both informative and very engaging. Having never handled a gun before I also found it really amazing that you had so many examples and first hand utilities right there's for us to see. It was great to get a feel for several different types of firearms since I can at least have an idea of what to start with on my search. As a teacher, in my eyes, there is nothing better than first hand experience and realistic life scenarios and you did all of the above for us on Sunday.

After taking this course I have a much more positive look on firearms and feel much more comfortable looking into purchasing one. I also really appreciate the further help that you are offering. Knowing how many people out there really have very little knowledge about carrying and/or buying a firearm, I am very grateful for all the help you are offering. I will definitely be in touch once I make my final decision on a firearm.

Thank you again,

S

Bob,

The course you provided was well thought out and progressed nicely. I liked your use of metaphors and scenarios to explain how to react in different situations.  Going into the class I was most nervous about the laws and how to/when to respond with deadly force. I found the practice tips and the wallet cards with how to talk to police, to be very reassuring. I feel that I can now respond the right way because I can practice and rehearse the scenarios. Another strong point, which I mentioned in person, was going over how to grip a pistol and getting shooting time with different guns.

Aside from the content provided, your demeanor and hospitality really put us at ease. The girls and I really didn't know what we were getting into and had never been around guns or people firing live ammunition.  So we were apprehensive going into the "unknown" but quickly felt at ease and left feeling like we've made a new friend.

I wish I can provide some constructive criticism, but the course surpassed all my expectations.

Thank you for everything. You'll be hearing from us soon!

Respectfully,

S

Bob,

It was a pleasure meeting you.  I'd like to sincerely thank you for an excellent, informative, and comfortable day of training and insight.  As mentioned, I've already strongly recommended the First Steps + Defensive Handgun course to 2 friends.  Both Jen and myself fully intend on returning for the Level II course after some further handgun selection and range time, and we also plan to take both the Defensive Shotgun and Defensive Light Rifle Courses.

Here are, in our opinion, some of the best highlights of the course:

1.  Comfortable, casual, one-on-one atmosphere.

2.  Comprehensive, yet to-the-point background handgun information, including safety, actions, operation, etc.

3.  Invaluable shooting tips & techniques, specifically as they pertain to defensive handgun (i.e. both eyes open, grip & stance, trigger control----firing off the reset is huge)

4.  Live fire with various actions and calibers.  Starting out with the .22's and working your way up the ladder seems to be a nice way to help cure flinch and perfect the basics.

5.  "Fringe" information and conversations-----emergency preparedness, potential legalities of self-defense, etc.

6.  No "BS"----at no time during the course did we feel that we were being fed bad information or receiving the "vanilla" version of the course.  Your honesty and candid approach is appreciated.

And, since you asked, a criticism of the course:

1.  It's too damn far away!  (just kidding)

Again, thank you for everything.  We'll both be back, no question.

Best Wishes,

J & J

Bob,

I definitely feel honored to have met and trained with you. The course was more than I had anticipated.

I felt that I have gained the much needed knowledge and hands on experience I was looking for, especially for an Level 1 course.

I am thrilled to have learned the proper method of firing my handguns. I only wish mother nature held out for another half hour or so I could have shot more! I am currently practicing in the mirror with snapcaps as you suggested and will hit the range later this week. I also went to a few gun shops searching for the Kel-Tec SU-16C, but the waiting list is so long that they won't even put me on it! In the meantime, I purchased a mount with weaver base for my AK and ordered two different scopes (a 1x and 4x). I will consider an AR if my wait becomes too long for the Kel-Tec. I will also be purchasing the Ruger 10/22 in a few weeks.

I am looking forward to the shooting intensive course and to build more confidence in firing while moving, learning different positions and how to approach and engage a target, or multiple targets. I would like to bring a rifle and shotgun for these skills in addition to my pistols.

Once again thank you for your time, expertise and hospitality. You will definitely be hearing from me soon.

Sincerely

A

Hi Bob,

I am officially settled in Florida with my new handgun, and I'm going to get my fingerprints done and file my paperwork this week to get my CCW.

The course and training materials were excellent.  Coming from a female perspective, you were very patient, kind, and helpful in everything you showed us.  Since the class, I know the differences between types of pistols and how to handle them properly; I am more confident in my aim and ability to hit a target; how to avoid (and if absolutely necessary, handle) confrontations with, or without any peers; where to conceal my weapon and how to handle a break-in when I am at home.  I enjoyed going over various scenarios with you so that I am mentally prepared for different situations.  You were very clear and confident in everything you told us, but provided a nice balance of seriousness and humor so as to not overwhelm.  I know my mom was skittish around using a gun and preferred flight to fight - but I know she's much more confident now, which makes me feel at ease too.

I'm glad you confirmed the way that I held the gun (instinctively or by practice - either one or two hands) is perfectly fine.  I know my dad was worried about me pulling the trigger because of my hand size, dexterity, and strength.  Though I felt confident I could handle it, he wasn't completely reassured until after you worked with me during the field training.  You put everyone at ease that I had strong survival instincts and could protect myself when necessary. My Dad is a great Certified Instructor, but I’m thankful he decided to take me to the Master.

Only thing I would love to cover (and perhaps if I'm up in PA long enough, we can) is how to clean my new weapon and actually do so in a training session.  I'm worried about pulling the pieces apart for proper cleaning and putting it back together in the right order/place!  I have no doubt dad and Jeff can help/show me, but you were an excellent instructor and everything sunk in much quicker during your training!

Thank you for taking the time to train my mom and me.  We learned so much and are much more confident in defending ourselves and our family.

Thanks,

Sarah

Bob,

Purchasing a firearm for protection was not high on my list of things to do, but with these ever changing, crazy times...a person needs the know how to get themselves out of a desperate situation, or distance themselves from that threat. That is where you came into the picture....your knowledge of firearms, all kinds and sizes was astonishing.. you held my interest throughout the day. I learned more than I could have imagined, from different types of guns, to bullets, to lasers. The experience was great. Then when I thought there could be no more, you brought up different scenarios, and showed my husband and myself how to diffuse the situation, if possible.

Owning and firing a gun, is a new experience for us, I think both of us were nervous, but you put our fears to rest. Your calming voice and clear directions on the range made us feel at ease.

I want to thank you so much, for your understanding, patience, and most of all for sharing the knowledge of responsible handgun ownership. Also for all the follow up information that you provided us, and for all of the internet links to different company’s.

My son will also be contacting you in the next few weeks to participate in a beginners class.

I hope we will see each other in the future, I regard you, not only a teacher, but a friend.

Thank you so much.

Bob,

Needless to say, your training course was phenomenal. I came in expecting a basic beginner handgun course, and what I learned surpassed that by leaps and bounds. All things that you taught were extremely helpful and insightful. You kept the "class" portion interactive and interesting. At no point was I bored or inattentive. The instructions and demonstrations made it simple for me, someone who had never used a pistol prior to the class, to load, prepare, and shoot. Beyond that, shoot accurately. During the actual shooting portion of the class, your instructions were very clear, and helpful. Your positive demeanor made it easy to adapt and learn.

I had no complaints about the class whatsoever. I intend on taking the advanced course after I get some more range time in.

Thank you again,

N

Hi Bob,

Overall I loved the course and since I have taken it I have recommended it to many of my family members. I cannot provide any criticism as I felt the course was designed perfectly to teach someone who, like myself, had no previous experience with firearms. As far as the structure of the course, I found the lecture sequence to be informative and easy to participate in. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history of firearms, the different types of firearms, the various calibers, how each works, and so much more before I even touched the firearm. I thought the design was extremely appropriate given that most people are taking this course to learn first and shoot later. All of the self defense situations were intriguing and put you in a real life situation to try and comprehend the quickness of the situation and physiological processes going on at that time. Despite being in the lecture sequence for about four-five hours, I never once felt bored or felt as though I was learning something that was not important.

As far as the actual shooting sequence, I cannot express how happy I was that I took this class before purchasing a firearm. The variety given to me, helped find me a good fit and allowed me to get over my fears of shooting a firearm. The instructional teaching provided allowed me to feel comfortable handling and shooting a firearm with no prior experience. When I was nervous or unsure, you were extremely patient and willing to help me in any way possible. You were very understanding and easy to learn from.

Again, there really is no area I can think of to improve the course as I gained so much from it and am so happy that I took it. The amount of knowledge and firearm safety I received from the course was more than sufficient to make me a competent and confident firearm owner and carrier.

Thanks!

M

Bob,

I truly got everything I expected and much more from the course. Coming in, I thought it was going to be safety and procedure followed by shooting. All of the extra information you've provided me with, went above and beyond what I expected going in. From the 5 items to carry at all times, to dealing with police and handling situations, I've gotten a very good insight into the future and where I need to take my shooting skills. Obviously the next step for me is to get a hand gun, and thankfully I have a better idea of what to look for when selecting one. Once I do, you will be my first call to put some rounds through it properly. Also I will be setting something up with you about my rifle so you can go over with me proper techniques and procedures.

Overall, the course was fantastic. The material is exactly what I think it needs to be and I could discuss further measures for hours along the lines of preparation and awareness. I feel as though we think along the same lines on many topics related to the ones we discussed today and hope to get the chance to pick your brain again soon. I can't think of anything more I would want from the class besides everything we covered.

I will be in touch with you over the next few weeks and we can set something up for both when I get a handgun and my rifle. I am going to take care of my carry permit this week and begin to shop local shops for a gun which suits me well. Until next time, be well and stay vigilant.

Sincerely,

M

Bob,

I thoroughly enjoyed the course and I believe it was well worth the time I spent with you last Sunday. It was the first course I had ever had regarding firearms and went into it not knowing what to expect. There was a lot of information presented with every opportunity to ask questions, which I appreciated.

Safety was my primary concern and I felt that the topic was addressed thoroughly.  I found many of the suggestions regarding my personal safety and that of my family very useful, and will implement them, as soon as possible.

The best part of the day for me was when I was able to get outside to shoot my handgun and the other handguns you had provided.  I felt much more comfortable handling my new handgun when we were through, and can't wait to get the chance to practice.

Overall, I felt very comfortable and at ease as soon as I arrived, and would recommend the course to anyone with a handgun.  My husband will be taking the course soon and I hope he gets as much out of it as I did.  Thank you again for an informative learning experience.

Bob,

I can't thank you enough for the outstanding firearms class.  You turned a person that has never handled a firearm before into a confident pistol handler!  I am so grateful to have had the pleasure of meeting you and the great fortune to learn from a knowledgeable professional.  Because of your unique and committed way of teaching you have inspired me to continue to make weapons training part of my everyday life.  I can't wait to purchase my next pistol...You will definitely see me for continued instruction as well as my family.  I will have no problem in referring you to anyone I meet that is interested in learning weapons management correctly.  Thank you again so much for your knowledge, instruction and hospitality.  I will be seeing you soon!!

Sincerely,

Bob,

Thank you so much for a wonderful day of learning, and for the hospitality you provided. I cannot find adequate words to express my gratitude for the knowledge and confidence I now have as a result of spending the day with you. You succeeded in opening my eyes on so many levels, and I'm still trying to digest all the information you so graciously and professionally provided. There is no doubt in my mind that I could not have found a more qualified, or passionate firearms instructor anywhere in this country.

Your teaching style held my interest and attention throughout the day. Your ability to drive home the points you wished to make regarding firearms and self defense were riveting, and the logic, statistics, and scenarios you presented for their use were beyond question. I now feel empowered with both the knowledge and ability to take control of my own personal safety, and it is a comforting feeling, indeed.

Your assistance and guidance in helping me determine the proper gun for my needs, and instilling within me the necessary confidence in my ability to use it properly, appropriately, and safely, cannot be overstated.

Your First Steps+ Defensive Handgun course should be required for everyone who owns, or is about to purchase a firearm, and I will sincerely recommend it to everyone I know.  I will be taking you up on your kind offer to stop by with my new gun when it comes in so you can check me out on it.

Thank you again. It was an amazing experience.

God bless,

E

Bob,

Cheryl raved about the course.  She had a great day.  I'll print your email and she'll be back in touch with you.  Do you give courses throughout the winter?  I'd like to train with you.  The only Saturday I have available is in December.  If not, I'll see you in the spring.

Bob,

It was also a pleasure to meet you and I did enjoy the day very much. The course was pretty much what I expected; largely due to the fact that you were very thorough in our communication as to what to expect. That's a GOOD thing!!

What I did find different than what I expected, was a much more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Being welcomed into your home as though I were a friend you've known, was a pleasant surprise. You made me feel relaxed and comfortable, that I didn't feel at all nervous about asking questions or speaking about anything.

I learned the differences between revolvers and semi-auto handguns, between single action and double action handguns and some good info on different size caliber handguns. A very important thing I learned were the various types of misfires that can happen and how to correct them. This was one of my major concerns, and you taught me well enough that now I feel comfortable that I can handle those issues safely. This area of concern was one of the major reasons for taking the class.

The books and CD I am sure will add valuable info. I definitely feel as though I received my money's worth. I thank you for that. As I said when I was at your house, I am anxious to get out and do some more shooting with it. I do feel comfortable with it now. So, I thank you for all that you taught me.

Thanks again, you will be hearing from me in the future,

M

Dear Bob,

N and I would like to thank you for a truly great day.  The information we received from you was invaluable. We came there with little to no knowledge of personal safety or use of our weapon and left feeling truly confident in both handling our pistols in a safe and responsible way along with the knowledge that we can and will be able to stop someone from harming us if need be.

The range training was awesome.  We had done some target shooting on our own and were lucky to hit the target at all.  With your instruction however, we quickly learned the proper way to handle the firearms, use the sights correctly and were able to place our shots in areas that would definitely stop the attacker.  It was truly a great feeling!

Lastly I would like to say that your class was so interesting that the day flew by.  It was immediately apparent that you have a vast amount of knowledge about firearms and survival techniques and are happy and eager to share it with others.

Once again, thank you for an awesome day.  You were very hospitable and we felt comfortable in your home.  We feel that we have found a great new friend.

Sincerely,

L & N

Bob,

I have to tell you the pleasure was mine, and the course was what I expected and then some!

I came home and had dinner with my husband and couldn’t stop talking about you, the training, and what I learned…. I was so excited about my new found confidence (not arrogance) in my ability to safely handle my .38 for protection as well as other defense tools you taught me about that I couldn’t go to sleep until after midnight and I had to get up at 4:30 AM and work my part-time job in mental health nursing.

I think the adrenaline is still going as I continue to process what I learned and take pride in my new found skills.

As far as the basic pistol course review I was going to email you to ask if the NRA has an evaluation page for their instructors listed anywhere on the web because I was so pleased with my training and feel you deserve the respect and praise that a good “teacher” should receive…. you are an amazing teacher… full of knowledge and experience and willing to share with others in a comfortable, respectful and interesting manner! From the moment I arrived I felt I was in a comfortable environment which for me is essential to be able to relax and focus my thoughts on learning what is being taught. You were considerate, which made me feel respected and your coffee and hospitality were delightful.

I told my husband I appreciated how you reviewed the course material while integrating real life events and utilized your own “tools” to teach me about the multiple choices in protective equipment and allowed me the opportunity to utilize these in comparison to my own choice in protection (my husband is worried not because I want to buy more).  I absolutely appreciate the education related to what to do in a situation if I ever need to utilize my weapon and the appropriate response to law enforcement to protect my rights in defending myself (the little card is a wonderful gift) I was delighted in you sharing what additional “tools” I may want to have with me at all times and educated my husband about them.

One of the tools you utilized and I respected was that of the “commands” on the range PRIOR to even setting foot out there. I was reassured that you had both our safety in mind during my training and I must tell you the one thing you would say that I continue to smile about when I “hear” you saying it even today… when I was ready to start shooting you would give the okay and say “at your pleasure”.  By this time I was feeling that confidence you told me I would, I was enjoying the target practice and it was just such a polite way for you to say it’s okay to have some fun doing this “serious” training.

These may sound like small things, however when put together in a full day of training those things added up and made for one pleasant day of “class” and practice! These are just a few of the “emotional” support things I appreciated and the information I learned is too much to report in one email.

I can assure you that you did a wonderful job training me in the basics of handguns and I will practice both in the mirror with snap caps and either on my in laws farm or at a shooting range as I continue to grow in my knowledge of our second amendment rights and increase my knowledge in weapons, ammunition, and appropriate use remembering my foundation with you at Dynamic Force Institute….Awareness, Avoidance, Preparedness, and Response!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge and your time with me. I wouldn’t change a thing in your training!

Bob,

My mother and I enjoyed the course very much.  In fact, it far exceeded our expectations.  The information was presented in a clear, concise way.  I very much appreciated that you offered your own insight on the topics we were covering, rather than just reading off of the powerpoint slides.  You kept our attention throughout the entire presentation, which is not always easy to do (especially with my mother).

F was surprised to hear about how my mother absolutely enjoyed the entire day.  He was actually skeptical about purchasing a firearms safely course gift certificate for her because she never really cared for firearms.  However, after taking the course she was very excited about telling him what she had learned.  She even mentioned to him about how good the coffee was!

I had no issues with the DVD and I found it helpful as well.  I can honestly say that I do not have one negative comment or any form of constructive criticism to offer.  I really did find the entire course to be well-structured, insightful, easy to comprehend, and fun.

Thank you very much.  It was a pleasure meeting you.  If I have any questions in the future, I will not hesitate to contact you.

Bob,

Thank you SO much for everything!  The class had more information than I thought it would!!!!!  There is so much to remember and I'm sure I'll get more comfortable the more I practice!  There is NOTHING that you missed and you are truly informative and a pleasure to be with!!!!!  I couldn't have asked for more!!!  I would recommend your course to ANYONE, new shooters and old ones (You are quite capable of breaking bad habits for them)!  Hopefully I'll see you again soon!

You should post flyers at the gun shops!!!!!

Have a LOVELY day and thanks again!

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the advice about Firefox.  I am using it now and it seems to be working well.  I had a chance to check out your web page and found it very informative.   I actually spent some time going over the material you present there and I will spend some more time with it.

We both have had a chance to reflect on your First Steps+ class.  As you observed, I've developed some bad habits with my handguns that I need to correct (bad habits that got their start when I was 10 and shooting Indians with cap guns).

My original interest in having a permit and having the handguns was in the first place more as an assertion of my 2nd Amendment rights and secondly to have the guns "just in case."  In reality, I have rarely ever carried a concealed handgun.  Most of my guns have spent the last 20 years locked in a safe.  I dusted off the S&W.38 and kept that more handy in the house after the infamous case in Dryden NY in which the Harris family of 4 were brutally murdered in a home invasion.  I think the perp's name was  (Michael?) Kinge. And you can probably look up the horrific event on the internet.  All that is wrong with our judicial system and law enforcement was brought out in that case.  That happened just a few miles from my home at that time, and it left an indelible impression -- the need for preparedness and the responsibility we all have to protect and defend our homes and families, if we are physically able to do so.

My point is that I needed the instruction as much as M did and benefited just as much as she did.

Actually, she benefited more than me.  It has been only since we started physically handling the guns as I began to introduce her to them that she indicated her fear of being in the house alone.  It seems strange that I wouldn't have known that.  But it took the guns to bring this out in the open.  She is home alone when I am out working, and when I am out working, I'm at least 40 minutes away in Ithaca.  She is used to being in a house that is ironed up with fencing, window bars, and concrete walls.  One of her first observations about the US was the unprotected houses.  No gates, no fences, no bars, no wire mesh on porches.  We open our windows and many people never even lock their doors (my mother still does this).  You can imagine her feeling of insecurity at being home alone AND hearing on the news of home invasions, robberies, drug dealers arrested in our own neighborhood, etc. -- crimes pretty much just as bad as in Jakarta.

Well, yesterday after we got back from the Sportsmen's Club where we went to try out the Kel -tec 9mm, where she had a chance to shoot that gun as well as some others including my .38 Special, I asked her how she felt about the guns.  She said she was afraid of them.   I said that's good.  What do you fear more, the bad guys or the guns?  She said the bad guys.  I said, how does it make you feel to know that you can walk over there, pick up that .38, and stop an attacker with it?  You can load it, reload it, handle it, and fire it safely.   She said it makes me feel very good and she was smiling when she said it, too.  I think the best gift a husband can give his wife is a handgun and the knowledge of its safe use.

Well, this is what I think of when you ask me to write a review of your class.  I look at what's on the bottom line.  And for me, anything I can do to improve my wife's experience and outlook is the main game.  On the other hand, as her confidence with the guns improves and she gets her own personal gun (which is very very important) and it becomes second nature for her to use it, then I know her confidence will be comforting for me too.  After all, it doesn't give me a very good feeling to know that my wife is home alone and afraid.

As for the program, I can't see any way to improve it.  You have the best of all worlds -- a fabulous home where you teach it and then a few steps away is your own private shooting range.  Actually, all of that isn't as important as your knowledge.  It is very evident that you have learned your stuff and are frank in your discussions.  Everything that's been said in your reviews is reiterated here.

There were a few points that seem to stand out.

1.  Your drawing attention to the focus of the eyes in sighting a handgun.  I was not aware of the distinction between sight picture and sight alignment and the importance of peripheral vision in sighting.

2.  Proper grip method is not easy for me, although M has it down pat.  She so impressed the guys at the Sportsmen's Club that they were still talking about it when I stopped into the gun shop today.

3.  Your insistence on using double action to fire the gun.  I always assumed you were supposed to cock the hammer first.  Rarely have I ever fired my revolvers this way.  But your rationale is dead on.  With the hammer cocked, the gun becomes an accident waiting to happen, especially for a person whose fingers are barely strong enough to draw the hammer back, and perhaps even less able to relax the hammer slowly and under control.  The guys at the club tried to get M to cock the hammer first, which is OK if you are just target shooting.  Probably it's preferable to cock the hammer first if you are really shooting for accuracy under normal calm circumstances, but under pressure, your advice to use double action is the best advice.

4.  Your rules for handling misfires.  Here again, this is a subject that never crossed my mind.  I've never had a misfire, but what a disaster it could be if one does not know what to do.

5.  If the only subject you talked about had been the rationale of shooting someone in self-defense, that alone would have been worth the time and cost of the course.  This is one piece of knowledge that needs to be drilled into the minds of every gun owner.  Without this knowledge, a person who has just used their gun for self-defense, is in serious trouble.  For that matter, you need to know this whether you use a gun or a ball bat.

M and I are going to do some more shooting at the range. We will try to become more comfortable with the lifestyle of concealed carry. This is new to both of us and we have a lot to learn about it.  In the future, I would like to come back to your school for another class. In the meantime, I want to thank you for the opportunity to glean from your experience and knowledge. I'll keep in touch and you please do the same. If you are up this way, please give us a shout. I would like the opportunity to continue our discussions.

Yours,
